In Potter County, today, nearly a foot of new snow, has replaced the flood water, in my driveway. Our Florida friends should take note, and stay another month. We have ordered warmer weather for next week, but, not too warm, as we don't want a repeat of the flooding of this week.
Found a report of a Portville apartment building being flooded, and several disabled people having their posessions destroyed by the flood. Very interesting, seems the NYS DEC has the keys to the flood gates, that keep the low lying areas, in Portville, from flooding. Portville Mayor had to call them, in Buffalo, to drive 2 hours, to open the flood gates. Talk about locking the barn, after the horse is out.?????????

In Security: The Valerie Plame Law. An interesting article, about the spys among us, by John C. Sharp. Read how our covert agent's life was put in danger, by our government, and John's suggestion of legislation, to protect our secret agents from being exposed, by people in our own government.

Unregulated capitalism creates slaves, just like unregulated fishing empties the oceans. Unregulated, wealth fouls it's own nest and destroys itself, by polluting the environment and destroying it's own functionality in human society. Therefore, look to Croesus' legendary wealth for the lesson of enduring values. Human existence and all life on Earth is not furthered by macho men with powerful weapons and lots of money, but by mothers and grandmothers who create life quietly and inexorably.

As the snow and ice melt, in North Central Pennsylvania's Potter County, thoughts are turning to the opening of fishing season. Fishermen, who have fished Potter County's streams and rivers, know that some of the cleanest water in Pennsylvania is here. There are still pristine brooks with, icy water flowing off the mountains, sporting native trout. These brooks flow from a continental divide, centered near the Village of Gold, into three different watersheds. They are the Allegheny River, the Genesee River, and Pine Creek which leads to the Susquehanna.
Pine creek in neighboring Tioga County is well known, as a fisherman's dream, and for whitewater canoeing in the Springtime. The Genesee river and its tributaries are great fishing in the northern end of the county, and the Allegheny stretches, horizontally, across the center of the county, from the tiny Village of Raymond through Coudersport and Roulette, continuing into Port Allegany and Eldred in McKean County.
I can tell you, that this Allegheny River is a great place to fish, and most of the land along the river is open for fishermen. A large variety of species is populated here. The Pennsylvania Fish Commission stocks the Allegheny, several times a year with trout. Record size muskies are reported regularly, as well as carp, suckers, bullheads, and blue gills.
Many times in summer, I have stood on the bank, behind my home, and watched hundreds of fish swimming there. There are no acid mines or other pollution in these streams. Recent projects have eliminated untreated sewage from entering these waters. Rooms and meals are reasonable priced in the area, and the natives are friendly.
Whether you are an experienced trout fisherman, or just want to take the kids where they can catch fish, Potter County is a great place to fish.

By Gatto.... Reality has suddenly turned into a bad movie with a really bad script. If we were watching what is happening as a movie, I would have to say that the plot was great, but that the story line was unbelievable. This movie, we can call it “Rise to The American Reich” for lack of a title, has a great premise, but the story line is much too murky and confused for the viewer to take the plot seriously. Especially the part in the movie when the Attorney General removes all of those Federal Judges to pave the way for the coup. That couldn’t possibly happen in real life. No sane movie goer would be able to rationalize that really happening.Oh, but reality is sometimes stranger than fiction. This is not a movie and these things are really happening, while John Q. Public is busy watching the Knicks on TV, as if it were the most important issue of the day. Millions of Americans are lost in Survivor and American Idol while real world news goes begging for an audience. The Bill O’Reilly’s are singing to their own chorus while Keith Olbermann is singing to his, all the while the fabric of our republic goes down the tubes with hardly a whimper. When we wake from this miserable dream that is the tenure of George W. Bush in the White House, what will emerge? Will we ever be able to make this person just go away, or are we stuck with him for life?
While the mainstream media is focussed on Anna Nicole's sad life, and the ensuing legal battles, events are happening in the USA that we really don't know about, that are very upsetting and dishonest, even smacking of conspiracy and treason. I have been reading articles like this on http://www.opednews.com. Most of these articles won't be found on the mainstream media. I have published some of my articles here as the big papers aren't interested in anything that would interfere with their corporate interests. The Puma Telegraph: Government taking a cougar count in eastern US: "The last known mountain lion killed in Pennsylvania was taken by a Potter County hunter in 1967, but the commission said that animal was an escaped pet and was not native. Killing an eastern cougar today would be a violation of the Endangered Species Act."

The Pennsylvania Progressive: Freedom of Information Coalition Formed: "Freedom of Information Coalition Formed
A new organization has been formed to fight for better access and laws regarding public information. The Pennsylvania Freedom of Information Coalition will fight to enable Pennsylvanians to have better access to public records. This is a persistent problem in our state. I am routinely denied access to public records in our county courthouse and elsewhere and it's a scandal. State laws are awful and there's no real enforcement. Fines for noncompliance are a joke so officials routinely violate the laws"

Potter County Treasures
Saturday, March 03, 2007, 8:07:17 PM Matthew Hoover
Here are three stories of fabulous treasures lost in or near Potter County, PA. I especially enjoyed the story of Captain Blackbeard (no, not that Captain Blackbeard) and his million-and-a-half dollar treasure.
You can also read about something you can actually visit today: the Coudersport Ice Mine. Something I have yet to visit.
