BROOKVILLE - A Brookville man accused in the shooting deaths of his parents very nearly escaped.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed with District Judge Richard Beck in Brookville, Richard J. Reed, 44, was stopped by Canadian Border Police at Niagara Falls, Canada, and returned to the United States.
Jefferson County District Attorney Jeff Burkett said that if Reed had crossed into Canada it would have made extradition to Pennsylvania almost impossible.
Burkett said Canada will not extradite suspects to states that have the death penalty. Pennsylvania has the death penalty. Read more in the DuBois Courier Express.

I was engaged to Richard Reed three years ago and would never have guessed he was capable of anything like this. Goes to show we can never be certain of anything in this life. His parents were wonderful people who will be terribly missed by family and friends.
