Meanwhile, former U.S. Rep. Bill Clinger, also a Republican, has endorsed Derek Walker in his bid for Pennsylvania’s 5th District.
Clinger represented the 5th Congressional District from 1978-1997.
“As your former representative, I have watched with great interest the current contest to fill this Congressional seat. Like our abundant natural resources, we have an abundant supply of candidates who are seeking your support. I am sure that many of them are qualified. However, in this difficult election year for Republicans you need to select the strongest possible candidate,” Clinger wrote.
“I believe that Derek Walker is that candidate and I am pleased to wholeheartedly endorse him for the position as your next congressman. He has solid conservative principles and a deep understanding of the district’s problems and its promise as well as its people. He has the “right stuff” to effectively represent our rural conservative values.”
Walker said having Clinger’s endorsement is “truly an honor.”
“Congressman Clinger is one of the most respected individuals in our area and has an outstanding reputation across the country,” Walker said. “As your Congressman, I will take the same approach Congressman Clinger and Ronald Reagan took — working to hold down the cost of government and to reduce taxes.”

I was very happy to see that Congressman Clinger endorsed Derek Walker. I read that he graduated from Bucknell and PSU. You must be very bright simply to be accepted at Bucknell. This man operates a successful business and has impressed me with his respectful nature. I have listened to him speak at several events. Your commissioners should have endorsed this bright young man!
