genpapier has left a new comment on your post "Amish Man Hospitalized By Mountain Lion Attack":
I hesitate to post this but don't see any harm. I was driving, last night, between Wellsboro and Sylvania and saw what looked like a mountain lion.
It was definetly not a dog, deer, house cat or bob cat. It looked slightly like an elongated pit bull in that it was muscular and was greyish tan. I would think it weighed 100+ pounds. It was low with it's head lower than shoulders and it's shoulders perhaps two feet from the ground - maybe a little less maybe a little more.
It was fast and direct and what I saw was a perfect side view. In the short instant I saw it clearly I detected no tail but it's head, shoulders and back was all feline. If I drew what I saw it would be a mountain lion. I've never seen an animal move quite like this outside. It's speed was tremendous.
It has played over and over in my mind and I just can't believe what I saw completely. It's strange to see something and for my brain not to be comfortable - like being in shock when you see something over and over like in slow motion.
I came across these posts trying to find out more and could relate to both the skeptics and the folks who have said seeing is believing. I would also add to this that in the few miles before my sighting of this animal I saw several small animals moving with their own directness and speed across the road. There was enough action to make me wonder if there was a fire or an earthquake.
This as an objective description as possible for me. I wish I had it to do over again because a tail would have clinched it for me.

It was Joe Paterno searching for some USC blood.
WE ARE.........PENN STATE !!!!!!
Of course we have another vague nightime sighting without a shred of evidence....picture...tracks....
witnesses..
What a joke!!!
Must have been Joe! Go Penn State!!
Please let Joe lose and retire... that school needs money to go to something other than the football program and that wont happen until he is gone!
GO TROJANS!
PSUALUM....
What's next, you turn your back on your country?
I found an interesting article on cougars or what most of us in potter county call panthers http://www.fws.gov/northeast/ECougar/ It seems interesting to me that the fish and wildlife service says they are looking for these in our area and that they use to be here. I think it is just our local wildlife services trying to pull the wool over our eyes.
More than likely you saw a Mountain Lion and you are now among the many of us that have seen these beautiful lions.
Please disregard the comments that are negative and disrespectful; we must consider their mentality.
Congratulations on your sighting!
I know we have mountain lions in the area as my husband and friens were out four wheeling by Crosby and one crossed there path. Whether people want to believe it or not is there purogative, but they are there and they are beautiful animals that just want to be left along.
"I hesitate to post this but don't see any harm"
And now you know.....
Congratulations on your sighting though.
Please disregard the comments of people who "claim" that they have seen a Mt. Lion in Potter County...it is a large hoax and there is absolutely no proof of their existence. The people that believe that they have actually seen a Mt. Lion/Panther/ Cougar are obviously either partially blind or just don't know what one looks like. Someone please come up with a picture or tracks or something to prove me wrong.
I have been a resident of Potter County for about 25 years now, and have hunted the majority of those years. I know the difference between a bear, bobcat, deer, ect.
Approximately, 7 or 8 years ago, I decided to take a walk during the late morning in the Shinglehouse park (very light out), as I done on many occassions. It was early fall as there were some leaves on the ground, but still quite a few on the trees. I was sitting on a bench by the creek when I heard a branch break behind me. I turned around to see a large mountain lion hitting the base of a tree about 20 yards from me. The mountain lion then ran away from me at an angle so I could see the side of its body, including its long tail, and its grey fur. The cat ran with such great speed, that the hair on its body shook every time it hit the ground and it was only in sight for a few seconds before disappearing out of site. I would take a guess that this animal weighed approximately 150 lbs., but that is only a guess.
I am not sure that I believe that these cats live in Potter County throughout the year, but at the very least, these creatures pass through the area from time to time. I was just very lucky that day to be at the right place at the right time.
I know what I saw, and it was not a dog, bobcat, bear, or anything but a Mountain Lion.
I went home and told my wife and family what I saw, however I did not feel the need to contact the Game Commission or anyone else.
You can take it or leave it for what it is worth, but I felt obligated to tell my story since I am getting so sick of all the people who say there is no possible way a Mountain Lion could be in the hills of Potter County!
You Gotta B Kiddin' has the same mentality as the George W. Bush idiots in this world. What ails you? The world would be a better place without your kind in it!!!
Congratulations to "I Believe!" I so enjoyed reading about your sighting and I will take what you said; I will never forget the beautiful black Moutain Lion that I saw. I wish more people would write about their sightings.
From the one that has always said, "Until you see one with your own eyes, you will never believe."
Once again another "sighting" with absolutely no proof to back it up and right there in the park, with nobody else around to verify the "sighting". I'll take it for what it's worth....I've added it to my list of "hoax" sightings.
We can send a man to prison with the testimony of a person.
Yet some people here need a DNA Swab before they will believe anything that does not emanate from their own mind.
Treasure your sighting!
You people are funny... I've heard of people that have seen pink elephants too...should we believe them also? People are crawling out of the wood work now with all of their "sightings" but there still isn't even a shred of proof for any of them. We have hunters awith hundreds of trail cams out there..trappers that can catch everything else that actually exists in PC..workers drilling gas lines all over...forestry and DCNR people that spend there lives in the woods and yet....not a single snapshot....even a blurry one to show that there is at least a possibility of a Mt. Lion.
Mr. Negative,
Did you not listen to a word that I said? I told you that I hunted the woods of Potter County for 25+ years, and this encounter happened one time (not several) and occurred during a period of just seconds. I was obviously extremely lucky to have seen such a beautiful creature out in the wild, but how lucky would I have to be to then happen to have a camera on me, and then be able to snap off a shot of the MOUNTAIN LION in that brief period of time.
I WOULD THINK MY CHANCES OF SEEING A MOUNTAIN LION, HAVING A CAMERA ON ME, AND GETTING A PICTURE OF IT, WOULD BE THE EQUIVALENT OF ME GETTING STRUCK BY LIGHTENING 3 TIMES.
Do people ever get struck by lightening? Yes, but thankfully not very often!
How many people get struck by lightening twice in their lifetime? Good luck finding that person!
How about those people that have been struck 3 times? Nearly impossible!
I hope I broke this down enough that maybe even someone as narrow minded as you, could understand!
"I Believe"
Your story was crystal clear to me. I for one am glad for your experience.
As for Mr Neg, well what can I say.
If a picture was produced, you can rest assured it would be discredited either as a fake or not being in Potter County or as a run away pet or zoo animal or some other excuse to hold fast to their belief.
"I Believe" What else can I say? The Mt. Lion just happened to be moving through the Shinglehouse park at the very moment that you were there and mysteriously just vanished without anyone else seeing it? I have hunted, hiked, snowmobiled, rode ATV's and horses throughout Potter County for over 30 years. I have seen tracks for every animal that reside in the Potter County woods and have never seen hide nor hair of a large cat. Maybe it was just passing through on its way to the zoo. If that isn't the case....you are full of crap.
