Not a bad idea from what I read...nothing wrong with protecting your roads, that being said, NYS all ready receives a ton of taxes from trucking companies if you are an out of state owner.
To name a few:
NY MT-903 (monthly) road tax based on the number of miles you have traveled in their state.
NY Hut (annual fee) for a sticker for the side of your truck so you can run on their roads and pay in road tax.
IFTA (qrtly report) due every 3 months so you can pay more state tax on the fuel based on the miles you run on their roads.
Apportion Registration (annual fee) so NY can be listed on your registration card of your truck, PA collects a % based on the miles you ran in NY the year before and charges you some more money!
Perm-17 (annual) proof that your insurance company will protect EVERY person and ALL property in NY while you are traveling through their state, yep that is right!
And these are only a few...if you haul pole wood, logs or milk in NY you have to purchase a special hauling permit for each truck. This is to bump up your weight because even though you are legal in PA, and have all ready paid for NY to be on your registration card NY's allowed weight is less based on axle distance.
And I am sure I have missed a fee or two here! But this gives the every day person that has no idea the expense put on the trucks that use highways in NY but are from PA have to pay.
So for the life of me I can not understand why NY is all ways running in the RED!
