Leonard “Lenny” Kalkbrenner Jr. of Grover Hollow Road in Genesee Township will assume responsibilities as Potter County Director of Veterans Affairs effective Monday, April 6. He is a U.S. Army veteran with more than 20 years of service, including tours of duty in Vietnam and Korea, and he served for many years as a military recruiter and recruitment supervisor.
In approving Kalkbrenner’s appointment at Thursday’s business meeting, the Potter County Commissioners said they were open to expanding the scope and number of work hours for the part-time position in the coming months. Earlier on Thursday, the county’s Salary Board approved a pay increase for the position to $12.00 per hour.
Kalkbrenner said he was looking forward to serving the needs of Potter County veterans through regular hours at the Veterans Affairs Office in the F. W. Gunzburger County Office Building, through coordination with local veterans’ service organizations and the VA, and through hands-on communications with veterans and their families.
He will participate in accreditation training through the Department of Veterans Affairs and looks forward to meeting with veterans and their families during the April 22 Veterans Benefits and Information Fair at American Legion Post 192 in Coudersport.
