Police Chief Responds To Rape Article

Olean police chief says department did its job after rape complaint

Olean Police Chief Terry Schnell responded to comments in a Thursday article about Kali McDade being cleared of charges of first-degree rape, second-degree rape and promoting a sexual performance by a child.

The story, which appeared on page A-1, was offensive to his police department, the chief said.

“I feel the police acted in an appropriate way in handling the complaint,” he said. “The witnesses were credible and we did our investigation.” More...

I see both sides of this but what gets me mad is that the cops find the time to put press releases when they arrest someone, but they never seem to find the time to put out the release if the person is cleared, not enough evidence, etc. So the person has that over them unless they call the newspaper like this guy did.

The arresting officer (not the public) should be accountable & pay for all charges the defendant had to rack up for legal defense if the defendant is found not guilty. That would stop alot of borderline arrests.

This poor soul didn't even have a paid attorney, he was given a public defender so he didn't have any legal fee's thank god, seems like the fee he has is the total loss and destruction of his new business, that's a damn shame, oh yeah and the branded name "Olean Rapist" This guy needs a pro bono lawyer who can get him compensated for the loss of his business at the very very least I think....

This guy isn't giving up at all, that's good. He posted the original police article from when he got arrested on his business website http://www.oleantechservices.com LMAO and when you read the first article and the one the cop wrote, it's hard to understand who actually called the FBI, seems like someone is trying to throw blame around ?? this dude should sue hard.

He doesn't have to be a saint but the one thing we know he isn't is a rapist!!!

I have personal experience with olean police, it's an understatement that they are more corrupt that the criminals they arrest, when arrested by these police, your already guilty before trial, the constitution says it's there job to prove guilt beyond a resonable doubt, yet they are immune from prosecution if they fabracate the evidence based on heresay........in my opinion the day will come when they get what they give.........

He should file a civil suit against the 2 girls and their families to recoop some of the money their "story" cost him in business and to hopefully teach them a lesson about telling false stories, especially ones as damaging as this one was.

I once had my right to a "speedy trial" violated in Olean as a minor.

The witness decided not to go to trial for a minor crime and told the police she was no longer interested in perusing charges. (I accidentally left a mark on her arm when trying to hit someone next to her)

The court rescheduled trial every week or 2 for about a year making me miss school becasue I would not take a plea deal.

I had no choice but to plea so I could get back to my life/school.

My (court appointed) defense attorney was working with them and now that I am an adult and have learned the details of the case, there isn't anything I can do about it.
