PCVA Adapts To Changing World Of Tourist Promotion

Potter County Visitors Association, the county’s official tourist promotion agency, has revised some of its marketing activities to adapt to new technology, reduced state funding and other economic challenges. Executive Director David Brooks reports several recent developments.

PCVA is working with producers from 20th Century Fox’s new action thriller, “Unstoppable,” starring Denzel Washington, to connect them with lodging to house the 400-plus crew members expected to stay in the area during filming. Weekly conference calls are being conducted with the Pennsylvania Film Office and the producers.

The agency is taking advantage of free online marketing opportunities on social media sites. Videos, photos, announcements and other information are posted. The agency has also started a visitors’ blog dedicated to sharing information relevant to visitors and seasonal property owners.

PCVA has created a public relations channel on Twitter.com. The organization delivers headlines to those persons and media outlets who want to know what’s happening in Potter County. Notable “followers” include Philadelphia Inquirer, CNN I-Report, WQED Pittsburgh and NPR News.

A membership drive continues. Membership entitles businesses to listings on multiple websites, a free listing in the Potter County Visitors Guide and calendar of events, multiple co-op advertising opportunities and access to both Pennsylvania Wilds and Pennsylvania Route 6 promotion efforts.

Anyone with questions about PCVA should call 274-3365 or email potter@penn.com.

Good luck with that.

The PCVA is a tremendous waste of taxpayer money. I had some friends come to town, so we were wondering what there is to do different in Potter. We went to the PCVA office on a Wednesday afternoon around 2pm and the door was locked. Are you kidding me? Have you ever looked in the windows of that place? If that is what we have as our "first contact" for tourists... It's no wonder nobody comes to Potter County.

Instead of going to the office, maybe you should follow them on Twitter. LOL

Same problem, told friends to stop in and get some info on what to do in PC. Friday-also closed.

The PCVA is a train wreck. Lets stop the bleeding, shut it down and let the hotels pay to advertise Potter County as tourist promotion tax free! Why is our tax money used to promote the hotels anyway? It looks to me like they are doing just fine on their own. I've been told that one of them is even getting ready to add on. Humm...

Yes...had people stop by many many times..door locked. Empty.
Very inefficient office. Poorly
run. Senseless.

Why follow on Twitter and maintain
an office?? That is lost on me.
HOW CAN TOURISTS WHO ARE IN TOWN
IN NEED OF HELP UTILIZE TWITTER?
DEAR HEAVENLY GOD, MAKE SOME SENSE.

David, you do a tremendous job promoting Potter County on a shoestring budget. Thank you for all you do. This is a great way of keeping up with the times!

I am sure it's difficult to provide the services you have in the past when the state pulled nearly all the funding for your office this year. Thanks for doing what you can with what you have to work with.

I remember a few years back when Potter went with the tourism tax. One of the commissioners said that they would evaluate the impact the tax has on drawing more tourists to Potter and cancel the tax if it proves not to be effective. Well, as you all know, the govt has never seen a tax it didn't like. This is an absolute waste of the peoples money.

CNN is following you on Twitter? I'd be impressed if it was Fox News but CNN- I wouldn't even admit that.

Using "Fox" and "News" in the sentence is an oxymoron. They espouse and promote a particular point of view and even an attitude that is politically conservative (nothing wrong with that, but let's just admit it instead of pretending it is not a fact) and narrow-minded (God forbid there might be merit in another viewpoint!). If that is in sync with your own biases, you will no doubt agree with that bias and enjoy the programming.

Fox News channel is the best!!!!

You go O'Reilly, Hannity and Gretta...

I think the reason people AND businesses in general don't come here is because of posters like 9:16 and 12:06. No one can try to do anything good here without everyone sitting back, pointing fingers and complaining.

Nothing new said...

Some of us have put up with it for years, the finger pointing and complaining usually comes from the ones that do not have one damn dime invested. As well as not a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out!
