Two Natural Gas Meetings Slated Tuesday Night

janjarrettAnyone with interest in the natural gas industry in Potter County may want to circle the calendar for two events on Tuesday night, Sept. 8. Members of the Potter County Natural Gas Task Force will meet at 7 pm in the county’s Gunzburger Building with a full agenda. Guest speaker will be Jan Jarrett, president and CEO of Citizens for Pennsylvania’s Future (PennFuture), one of the state’s leading environmental advocacy organizations.

Her presentation will acknowledge the economic development potential of Marcellus shale natural gas production while reinforcing the need for environmental oversight and local government involvement. PennFuture has taken positions in favor of a severance tax and in opposition to broad-scale gas development on state forest and game lands.

gaspipelineMeanwhile, emergency responders, local government officials and others with an interest in safety issues surrounding the natural gas industry are invited to attend a free Safety Awareness Training Program, at the Coudersport Firehall, starting at 5:30 pm. Speakers will also cover topics such as communication between the industry and local leaders, safe digging and damage prevention for underground utilities, incident planning and response scenarios, rights-of-way and related topics. More information on that program is available by calling toll-free 1-866-577-1162. Potter County Today

Here we go!!Bring on the Tree Huggers and make sure they foul up anything that could be good for Potter.Another bunch already filed suit to stop the drilling around Galton. One company started letting all their leases in Potter go back.Am sure more will follow.Better invest in tourism, cause Potter already has a reputation for discouraging everything positive...

Lots of gas companies pulling out of Potter. Don't think it's tree hugger pressure- seems shale is thicker in Tioga. Hope we didn't just miss being "somebody" by 50 or so miles.

right on. Has there been ANYTHING that wanted to come to Potter County That people haven,t complained about?? I don,t think so. What has they sure try to drive them out. Wake up Potter County. I am not proud that we are called the worse poverty stricken area in many states.

People are so quick to jump to conclusions. We can have economic development and jobs from the gas industry as well as protection of our water resources. It is not one or the other. The county doesn't have anything to do with the proposed state severance tax on natural gas production at the wellhead. If the state passes the tax though they better give a piece of the action to the townships or school districts so maybe we can start to curb the property tax that is killing many of us. This is a complicated issue so please do not jump to conclusions so fast.

Oh, they'll be here like it or not. Just drove passed Mansfield on RT 6 and drill baby drill is happening. Not too bad to look at....progress. On one farm a field was loaded with all the drilling equipment and drill set in place. The other fields, cows grazing, farmer putting in second cutting of hay. Now it really doesn't look like his life is ruined. Now, the water, don't know but we can only hope it is always good...unless it never was.

Agree with poster of Sept 4 at 5:27We can have both local employment thru gas drilling as well as a strong environment. But only if the gas companies know that we support them & strong protection for the PaWilds.
