The Game Commission is wrong again. This man has the right to protect himself and his dog. The Game Commission has the responsibility to keep the bear population within manageable numbers, and they haven't. They sure have allowed this demise of the deer herd and the bear population is out of control.
I Know - starve your dog and let the bears do what they want. According to the story they were worried that he shot carelessly into the dark. Must of been a damn lucky shot with a 22 to hit the black spot. The whole thing is bull. A bear harassing my dog is a dead and buried bear.
I thought that if a bear was "disturbing" your animals on your land that this was acceptable?? Anybody know any law about this out there? Guess they should have left the dog to whatever was going to happen and went inside to watch??
That's bull! If a bear is attacking you or your family or animals you should have the right to shoot it. Shoot the game commision!
if they were strugling for money then why didnt they just eat the bear
I live in the Costello area and I am afraid to walk my kids in the house after dark.I have been seeing a few 4 or 5 hundred pounders walking real close to my house and I try to go out and yell and scream at them and they just look at me like hmmm yummy dinner come say that closer to me.Thank God bear season is just around the corner!I will not even let my dog out after dark now because of this.
Let this be a lesson to all of you!!
This man did what he thought was right. He defended his property and his dog, then, called the G.C.
How many of you would have done the same exact thing in this scenario??
I would have shot the bear also.
We should stand behind this man if he is prosecuted.
This is an example of a common man simply trying to defend what is his and not a simple poacher killing for a monetary reasons.
When are we gonna stand up to the G.C. and show them they are not always right??
I would be willing to send this poor guy $5 to help pay his fine if he is found guilty. Found guilty??!! Am I crazy??
Anyone else wanna stand behind Mr. Lauver and show your support ??
I'm in for a few $. Can we get his address or contact info.
It would be good if he could get this to a jury trial
Lesson learned.
SSS
Glad it wasn't a kid or a lost hiker that was trying to play with the dog.....
You must identify your target before you start pulling the trigger....thats why he is getting the fine not because he shot the bear...he was extremely reckless and lucky it was just a bear he shot....
Let this be a lesson learned. The Game Commission is a corrupt political organization that lacks common sense. They don't work for me and you, they work for special interests. I would never contact them in this situation.
"Glad it wasn't a kid or a lost hiker that was trying to play with the dog..."
If you're dumb enough to go messing with someone's dog in the middle of the night on their property, you deserve to be shot just as well as the bear.
No there is the problem with our country, people break in your home, get hurt and sue you....I say bs...go on someone's land in the middle of the night and you should expect to be shot.
I learned 2 lessons.
1. Shoot shovel & shut up
2. When the Reporters/News Crews come around, do not talk to them one word, until you talk to your attorney.
Game Commision is hurting for money not as many people bought hunting licenses this year do to the bad economy. So these idiots need paid too. Rendell probably screwed them out of their checks like he did PennDot for so long.
The game commission, fish commission, dep, dcnr, forestry all need to be cut way back. That would save the state millions upon millions!
Come on my property in the middle of the night and if the german shepards don't get you my 38 will. We have the right to protect our families from bears, people and whatever threatens our families and properties. To the poster who said "Shoot, Shovel and shut up"
I couldn't agree more. Itis the way the gov't wants it to be.. Fine me if you catch me!
This means the woman near Williamsport last year would have been arrested had she shot the bear that attacked her and her dog? She was admitted to the hospital. My God this really is a crazy world.
I could not agree more with the
S S S theory, but, now that he made a mistake in doing what he thought was right I also say we should push him to a jury trial and let the people hear both sides of the story.
I imagine he hollered "who's out there" or something to that effect and did not shoot blindly, but, regardless he was arrested for taking a bear out of season and not on a safety issue if I heard the report correctly.
Maybe if we contact the tv station we could send money to the station to help him out.
I don't know about the rest of you but, to come up with $500 overnight would not be an easy task for me, with taxes, etc. due.
I agree with you all, I can and will protect my family and pets on my property, PERIOD!
We have all kinds of wild life on our property, both bear and coyotes have been coming very close to my home. I have small dogs and I can tell you one thing they will NOT be a meal for a wild animal. I will shoot and I will bury!
Shoot them in the gut and save yourself the trouble of burying them. They run off and hole up and die in the bushes somewhere. Worms gotta eat too!!
Trap em then release em at the nearest game commissioners home. Oh dont forget to leave a nice bloody Ny Strip Steak or Delmonico tied outside its cage. Give it the goods and see what the Game Commisioner does then.
i wood shot it to
Ha, good one.
You know how the old saying goes about some Game commision officers don't ya? It takes a crook to catch one, Ha!
Game Commision = Penn. Dot. Same mentallity, different reasons.
Now, I don't quite agree with this. I have friends who are in PennDot and none of them show the arrogance or ignorance of the G.C.
What do you expect the higher ups were all cronies of Rendell... Please everyone send an e-mail to pgccomments@state.pa.us and let them know what asses they are for what they are doing here. Its the only way we can even think about correcting this. Or maybe this guy should not pay the fine and demand a jury trial...I am sick and tired of money cures everything. Tell everyone you know to send a nasty gram to these jerks.
