Thompson Decries New Unemployment Figure of 10.2%

Yet Democrats Continue to Push Job Killing Health Care Bill

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Representative Glenn `GT’ Thompson, R-Howard today blasted the Democrat leadership, who are proceeding with a vote on the Pelosi Health Care bill that promises to kill jobs in small business. “It flies in the face of reason when you see the new unemployment figure of 10.2%,” said Thompson.

“The American people are hurting, and you can hardly talk to anyone who doesn’t have a relative or friend out of work. We haven’t seen a level of unemployment like this since April of 1983,” Thompson explained. “More than 190,000 Americans lost their jobs in October.”

Tomorrow the House of Representatives will vote on the Pelosi Health Care bill, which raises $150 billion in taxes from small businesses. It is small businesses who generate the majority of new jobs in this country and employ just over half of all private sector employees.

More than 2.8 million jobs have been lost since the stimulus was signed by the President. “I disagreed with the stimulus at the time it was passed and believed that the alternative economic recovery plan would have created twice the jobs at half the costs of the plan that passed,” Thompson said.

“I believe the majority is preparing to make another huge mistake. This bill is 2,000+ pages of tax hikes, red tape, and federal mandates,” said Thompson. “The $1.3 trillion measure is a stunning federal power grab – granting a new breed of federal super-bureaucrat the authority to reshape our health care system from the inside out. The new federal Health Choices Commissioner will have some 67 new authorities including: Assessing civil money penalties against QHBPs (qualified health benefit plans) for violating federal requirements, and suspending enrollment of individuals enrolled in QHBPs that violate federal requirements. Everyone must have exactly the same health care plan whether it is what you want or not.”

“This time around, I am again supporting an alternative measure. The Congressional Budget Office has looked at the bill I support and written that it will lower premiums by up to 10 percent and reduce the deficit by $68 billion over 10 years without imposing tax increases on families and small businesses. It addresses medical liability tort reform, allows small businesses to pool together to offer health care at lower prices and establishes Universal Access Programs to guarantee access to affordable care for those with pre-existing conditions. Perhaps its biggest asset is that it does not kill jobs while it is making healthcare more affordable,” Thompson said.

Thompson concluded, “At last count there were 79 Democrats still said to be in opposition to this bill. It will be interesting to see if backroom deals are cut overnight.”

Yeah we're hurting and many of us that are working can't afford what health care if any our employers do offer. We're working for peanuts to begin with, have all we can do to pay our daily bills. I know way too many people around here that can't go to the Dr because they can't afford to. And don't even start with the "well you can go to the ER because they have to treat you" speech. Why in the hell do you think health care is so expensive now? Because of ppl doing just that for starters.

I like Glenn but this is one area I have to disagree with him on.

If you are having trouble paying your own bills, what makes you want to pay the bills of others?

Well if you are having trouble paying your bills now just wait until this lame brain bill becomes law, will you be able to afford to pay 2.5% of your gross income in the form of a tax that you will pay into the Fed's for not having insurance?! Because that IS in this 2,000 page waste of time and tax payers money!

"More than 2.8 million jobs have been lost since the stimulus was signed by the President"

Yup. That's what's doing it all right. It's them dumbocrats, doesn't have anything to do with our economy being terrible to begin with.

Do people actually believe this crap? The insurance companies stand to lose PROFIT (they aren't in the poor house) and they tell you healthcare is going to cost everyone their jobs.

Keep eating what they are feeding you. Eat it up. They get richer and we scrape to make a living. They have us arguing (R) vs (D) while both sides laugh to the bank.

I'm not saying this bill is perfect or even good. But a child can see they will tell you ANYTHING to protect their profits (or in the case of the politicians, their campaign contributions FROM these industries).

You won't get a good bill out of washington because both sides are owned by the very industry that would rather see you poor and unable to provide for your family than risk their BILLIONS of profit.
You can't get good insurance from employers anymore either. Not without rising deductibles and shrinking coverage each year. Why? Because they don't want to hurt their profits to pay for it either.

Do some research. The very things that caused the rise of communism (check out the french revolution while your at it) are happening now.

Don't be confused, i'm not talking about the SOCIALISM sham/scare on fox news. I'm not talking about Obama. These revolutions were brought about by greedy pigs stealing the toils and labors of an entire nation and leaving them nothing but to revolt against capitalism itself (or in the case of the french, land owners).

You don't have to like or agree with communism (i don't) to understand and sympathize with why Russia tried it.

Our nation has already been sold. U.S.A. Bought and paid for. And we never even got told it was for sale.

I don't know how we take it back. But i do know things will have to get a LOT worse until we stop arguing with each other and start taking our anger out on the ones to blame. The parties that have hijacked the system in a catch 22: Republicans, Democrats... and the fat cat puppeteers that control them both.

Listen stupid. Insurance companies are in business to make money. That is what companies do. Check and look at their profit margin. I believe it is somewhere in the 2 to 3% area. Is that a lot of money for a company to make? Check before you write something you know nothing about.

Are you an employer?

I am, and guess what, our insurance plan was dropped by the INSURANCE company not US!
It had nothing to do with OUR profit margin!

In PA you as a small employer MUST have 50% of your employees WILLING to participate, with semi retiring employees now drawing medicare, employees that have coverage via their spouse's employer and some that just do not want it because they are young and feel it is a waste of money we lost our group coverage because we fell under the 50%. Highmark does not care if your employee has coverage elsewhere so why even ask if it is not allowed for your shortage?! That and the fact employees were dropping out because the rates kept going up and were too expensive!

We got private health care through the same company for us and our college bound child (they must have health insurance to attend college in PA!) after having NO INSURANCE at our place of business for several years because we no longer qualified for group coverage. We got the exact same coverage our premium went from 1189.00 a month to 451.00 a month. Now it does not take an Einstein to figure out that Highmark is shoving it up business owners asses now does it?! Your rates in a group are based in everyone's health condition in that group, that is why we paid so much then and less now, this needs to be changed!

Our family (3 on our policy) paid into this group for 15 years on our personal coverage before we used it enough to actually meet our deductible! Why? Because we are healthy, no monthly medication and do not run to the doctor for a hang nail! I had to have surgery in 2005 and that is the one and only time we meet the deductible in that 15 year time frame for the 3 of us! And Highmark gave my doctor a ton of crap about paying for it, I could not believe that! I called Highmark and told them I did the math, and in that 15 year time frame I added up the premiums paid in on just our family plan and I had paid in 145,000.00 ( plan rates went from 500.00 to 1189.00 in that 15 years) and they had better pay for the damn surgery! Needless to say after some choice words and threats about turning them into the state for defrauding our contract, they paid for it.

Our government needs to regulate the insurance industry not try to come up with a whole new program that we tax payers and business owners have to pay a % in tax and penalties for not having insurance or a comparable coverage plan!

Our government needs to open up the state line issue and allow other companies to come in PA and compete with Highmark since they have been allowed to corner the market, we as business owners have not been given this "gift"!

For starters, what if we create a fund for campaign contributions - no one should be permitted to support a specific candidate - it causes favoritism. But one fund, divided equally among anyone who can prove that they are serious about running for office, would eliminate some of the corruption that occurs in our government.
