Attempted Hanging
Alert guards at the Potter County Jail apparently saved the life of an inmate who attempted to hang himself in his cell early Thursday morning.
Unofficial reports indicated that the guards cut the man down after he was found hanging by his shoelaces.
Potter County Sheriff Ken Sauley confirmed the incident, but did not identify the inmate or release any details of the incident, saying only that the attempted hanging is under investigation.
He reported that the inmate was not seriously injured in the attempt and after treatment at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, was returned to the jail. Coudersport Ambulance and medic 6 transported the inmate to the hospital shortly after 6:00 am on Thursday.

That's why the inmates should sleep on hay.
Now the guy sits in the holding cell locked down with no cloths on other then a green vest type dress. Oh and probably new charges will be filed against him for trying to commit suicide. Way to go Potter County.

Who cares where the person is from or who it is. I know Potter Counties Jail Routine when it comes to attempted Suicides. I believe it is wrong how they handle it by stripping the inmate of everything including his underwear just to wear a green vested dress that still shows most of his body. Sleeping on concrete gets cold when all you got is there shitty thin blanket with no sheets, and no cloths.
Well I guess he should have thought about that before he committed the crime that put him in there in the first place. That has nothing to do with Potter County.

Just because he's in jail doesn't mean he's necessarily guilty. We're innocent until PROVEN guilty, not guilty because charges have been brought against us. How often are inmates (not just Potter County, but nationwide) brought to trial and found not guilty???
They should get bread and water. Get rid of the TV and wear disposable clothing, get cold showers and be whipped twice a day for good measures. All the inmates that is.
This is the first prison I have ever heard of that allows inmates to have shoelaces. They should always be removed and slip-on shoes are always issued with the uniform. Not only are shoelaces often used in suicides but also as a weapon to choke other inmates. I don't know where Sauley got his training but this is common knowledge. We remove laces from every prisoner even for charges like DUI.
There are alot of judgemental people, yes individuals are in the jail as they have broken the law, this does not make them bad people. As this is the holiday season it causes a deep depression to set in on people inside and outside of the jail. This person may have problems that no one but he understands, for those of you who are perfect and can do no wrong then be thankful, but there is no such thing as a perfect person, everyone makes mistakes. There are many individuals in this town that should be in there, but have money to buy there way out, so before you judge those take a minute and think of it on both sides. We all have good in us.
not everyone in jail is guilty for one..and they are humans.if your so messed up you try hanging yourself the last thing that should be done is humiliated by being stripped down and paraded like a freak show.there is little or no compation for people from guards or staff.i pray for him and his family for the pain they must be going through.its so easy to put someone in jail and look away but sometimes we need to look a little farther and see the damage done for putting people in jail for petty offences or for just oweing money.jail is for bad people or so i've been told but theres alot of good people in jail along with the bad ones

You're passing judgement on someone that you do not even know. You have no idea who this person is, or what the actual circumstances are for his being there.
For all you know his wife left him for another man and set him up so she could get the good 'ole $ like many 'o women around here do.
I'm not saying this is what happened, but what if it were? For all you know this is someone completely innocent that is dealing with emotions you have no idea about.
You should be ashamed of yourselves for those comments.
As far as the jail goes, if you have never been there, never been in that situation, save the "holier than thou" routine b/c it could just as well be you, regardless if you are a criminal or not.
We threw out the, "innocent until proven guilty" a long time ago.
They don't have to prove crap to take you from your home and family and lock you in a concrete block with just your boxers (b/c this is intake) where it's 55 degrees all night long and you're freezing your ass off.
This, before anyone has proven anything.
It is ok though for those of you who wanna treat people like animals b/c you've proven them guilty in your mind...the day will come when you will rethink it all...maybe someday it'll be you in the holding cell.

Last time I knew, most drunk drivers that kill somebody go to jail! Child molester crimes are usually pre-meditated and deliberate! Duh!

No pity here. Poor guy... has 3 squares, a bed and heat as a reward for sitting on his ass doing time. Boo hoo. How about grandma who worked taking care of a family her whole life and can't afford to have heat on. I'm sure she'd enjoy 55 degrees on a cold winter night in her heatless home. No sympathy for jail birds. What's to complain about? Abide by the law, work a job, pay your bills, leave others alone and you get the luxury of living in your own house with bedsheets, your own clothes and as much heat as you pay the bill to have. People sit in county jail for non serious crimes. You have the heart to say you do not pity them. Well guess what they got a family too, much like you do. So them people made a small mistake ended up in County. It could have been worse they could of committed a huge crime and got state time. Now my point to you is 1 day you will have a family member go to jail one day that family member will try hanging himself. One day you will be at his funeral and You best say to him. You deserved what you got, you should not have committed a crime to end up in County because you were a hardcore criminal. The point is you get what you deserve. You think bad about this man, you are no better. Just because you are not in jail does not mean your a model citizen. You are probably a piece of shit, bitching because your wife left you or you had bad luck with a lottery ticket. Now when leaning over the casket saying to your family member that they deserved it, pull your pocket knife out and stab them one more time in the back to get your message across that criminals are criminals and they do not deserve to live.
Does anyone know who this person was?? I know several people who are in the potter county jail..I was just wondering if it was someone I know..Just as a few of you have said..Dont go bashing people when you dont even know why he done it..It could have been several things..Im sure you have said to urself, ur friends or family members "Things would be great if I were just dead." We all have said it once or twice in our lives..So dont go saying sh** until u know what the problem was
