Strawberry Festival Holiday Delight On Courthouse Square
Coudersport New Century Club continued its Independence Day holiday tradition this year, holding a Strawberry Festival at the courthouse square. Proceeds from the sale of strawberry shortcake and sundaes will be used for the club’s community service programs. Here, Karen Mitman dishes out the delicacy to an eager customer.
Long-time festival volunteers Ilene Altenhein and Donna Lehman were once again on duty. Coudersport octogenarian Tom Leete, who has a long history of community service, also stepped in to help out club members. Stan Swank and Tim Foust from Jubilee Foods assisted with set-up.
One of the New Century Club’s most ambitious project has been the courthouse square gazebo. The club has unveiled an ambitious plan to renovate the gazebo, including repairs and the installation of a ceiling that will improve acoustics. (Photo by Lugene Heimel)

I enjoyed a nice shortcake with my friends. I was very disappointed the the local community did not come out to support the past annual Strawberry Festival. I used to enjoy the vendors and farmer's market. Only 2 vendors on the square and they said the Farmer's Market is a thing of the past. Is this true? No more Farmer's Market on Saturdays at the square?
Where is the support for our local farmers?
I love that stuff, but had no idea anything was going on?
It was in the Endeavor last week and this week. We go every year. The kids love it and Donna always gives out an extra scoop of berries for a smile!
There will be no more Farmer's Market as there was not enough local support. The orgaizers are sad about this turn of events, but had to face reality.
