State Funding Cuts Responsible For Tuition Increase At Pitt

University of Pittsburgh Raises Tuition

The University of Pittsburgh's Board of Trustees this morning approved an 8.5 percent tuition increase for in-state students.

Chancellor Mark Nordenberg blamed a 19 percent reduction in state funding that took $40 million from the university's $1.94 billion operating budget.

Pitt cost-cutting would cover about 60 percent of the state reduction with the tuition increase picking up the rest.

The tuition increase will take effect in the fall.

Thank you, elected officials of PA for cutting education. What a bang-up job you're doing. Please God, someone help us!!

Is the Pitt Administration taking a pay freeze or cut? More likely they are just passing all additional expenses on to the tuition bills....

Penn State did also.
Maybe some cutbacks on the good ole campus faculity's salaries are in order? Oh no, wait, they are not the greedy ones.
In my opinion, I think there shoudl be more trade schools for the kids where they can get training for the jobs that they are looking for. Like Vo-teck in Port. Nothing wron with that. A lot of the kids today are getting out of college with thier big degrees and find out that there are no jobs for them.(with the exception of teachers) What a waste of money and time. Go into the healthcare field kids. Always work there and there will always be a need.

Poster number three is a perfect example of our exemplary education system in PA. Let's cut some more fat and everyone will sound like the stars of Deliverance.
