WJAC-TV Posts Notice To Viewers On Their Website

To : All Zito and Johnsonburg Cable Customers

Dear WJAC-TV Viewers:

At midnight on Dec. 31, The Zito Media Cable Co., which is affiliated with the Johnsonburg Cable Co., had the option to remove WJAC from its cable systems or sign an agreement with WJAC that would allow it to continue to carry Channel 6 for three more years. All area cable companies have signed such an agreement with the exception of Zito.

Zito is refusing to sign an agreement to compensate WJAC in a manner consistent with the way other cable partners of WJAC are doing. The FCC requires cable companies to negotiate in good faith for the rights to carry a broadcast station.

We at WJAC do not understand why Zito is refusing to come to terms with us when it has agreed to pay cable networks such as TNT, Turner and ESPN up to two to five times more than what WJAC is seeking.

While WJAC is working hard to try to get Zito to agree to a new carriage contract, Zito customers unfortunately will potentially have to do without WJAC’s excellent syndicated programming, it’s market-leading newscasts, NBC primetime programming, and NFL football playoff games including the Super Bowl.

If you are a Zito or Johnsonburg customer and you want WJAC-TV back on your cable system, call Zito at (814) 260-9570.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you, but WJAC would very much like to return to these cable systems immediately. Your cable company needs to hear from you.

Thank you for your patience.

we now have NO NBC stations available in Emporium, in spite of an increas in our monthly cable bill from zitomedia. I guess they are still the same ole greedy crooks...time for Dish Network

Get WJAC back! We don't need three CBS feeds! WJAC covers District IX sports very well.

Just to put it out there because I don't know if anyone noticed but they also got rid of Channel 7 Buffalo and replaced it w. a Pittsburgh Channel.

zitos programming is headed downhill. I have never considered another option in Coudy but I am now!

It's all about money and greed.

My cable bill already went up due to increasing costs, so I would rather Zito not pay WJAC the 300% increase that they are asking for. I don't want my cable bill to have to go up again. Product cost increase almost always trickles down to the consumer.

i doubt WJAC will drum up much support here in Coudersport. of course i can't speak for all of Zito's area, but at least here in Coudy calling Johnstown-Altoona 'local' isn't much different than calling Buffalo 'local'. so really, as long as we have an NBC carrier, it doesn't even matter.

have made calls to zito and they try to put the blame on wjac, zito needs to get over it and get wjac back on the air they said wjac qants too much money,,,well don't they and we don't have a choice we have to pay it have called the satelite companies and they say they cannot give wjac in the area have to go with buffalo seems to me with the technoligy today you should be able to choose what you want,, also zito needs to improve thier service they are way behind other cable companies with old equipment get off of it zito and get wjac back on so we can watch the new we have 3 buffalo stations and now pittsburgh and altoona that does not know what news is
we want wjac back

It's the same deal with MSG network and Time Warner. It's greed on both sides so stop blaming one or the other..

GREED GREED GREED!! everybody's GREEDY! even some of you peeps reading this.. yes, you.. you konw you are so stop looking at your computer screen that way. :P

In Dubois, Zito is also providing WGRZ out of Buffalo for NBC and calling that local. Buffalo is probably 3 times as far away as Johnstown. I believe they are by law required to provide "local" network stations. I think its time we report them to the FCC.

Stop being so shallow people and look at the big picture for a second. Your cable bill WILL go up again if Zito gives in to WJAC. Its not about technical issues, its simply about them wanting higher license fees for Zito to receive their signal than what its worth. Comparing themselves to ESPN or TNT is laughable and this is all about Zito trying to do what's ultimately best to keep YOUR cost down. In Coudy, truth is we have another NBC affiliate and also have another Altoona and Johnstown feed from WTAJ. Is it worth another increase to your bill to continue receiving their service. Tell them NO Zito and replace WJAC with a new more cost effective channel from Erie, Pittsburgh or Elmira that wont raise our monthly bill.

Direct tv has been doing well for me....zito just thinks it the only game in town

Anonymous said...

any real local stations near by? any school/university channels that can be broadcast?

I dumped Zito a few years ago and would encourage all to do so. The family's greed is well documented. Dish network has great channels and at a cheaper cost. Adelphia used to be a great local provider, but things changed when Zito took over. Poorer service, higher rates. I sure wish John Rigas was around to teach his kids how to run a cable company.

why in the hell is our cable tv bills the same price with less channels?????

Anonymous said...

I wish i could just pay for the channels I watch. Of the hundreds of channels I get on direct, I may watch about twenty on a regular basis. and maybe another 20 more if something good is on.

Being from the Johnstown area orginally, WJAC is the only reason I stay with zito. If WJAC goes away, I will be sure I get rid of zitomedia too. It sucks anyway.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I get sick of Zito's FOX (channel 8) going out all the time for live broadcasts. Either it goes out or it looks like one of those japenese films where the words don't match their lips. I've called several times and have been told that they are aware of the problem but don't plan on getting it fixed.

The only company that wouldn't pay the rate increase to WJAC yet Zito customers are expected to pay are recent rate increases!I'm gonna definately switch to dish or Direct TV!Recently recieved a dvr from Zito!Looks like it may be one of the first DVRs ever made with a old crappy lookin dirty remote included!I pay for all the HBO's although I can only watch one of them as the other ones skip so bad they're impossible to watch along with other channels that do the same! This is the last straw!Hello Sattelite and NFL sunday ticket for next year!

Are all the complainers NOT going to complain if their bill goes up to cover the increase that is being requested by WJAC? I've seldom had issues with my Zito service and when I do, the problem has been remedied quickly.

Post 1:23 your last sentence is one of the funniest things I've heard in a long time hahaha

Anonymous said...

1:42 then you should get out more and stop reading solomons as that wasnt hardly funny at all. Get a life and stop hating!

Anonymous said...

so... does that mean we are all gonna get rid of their high-speed too? hmm everything just sucks these days doesnt it?

This situation smells and there is something not being reported by both parties. Is Zito dropping WJAC due to negative reporting by this station of Zito's relatives or is it because Zito doesn't want to pay the subscription cost, which WJAC's website states "Zito is refusing to sign an agreement to compensate WJAC in a manner consistent with the way other cable partners of WJAC are doing." Smells, yep it smells.

the qestions i have is what happened to channels 16, 17, 40, c-span2 and today no 21 ? do we get credit ? the last increase was for fuel, the fuel costs are down 60 cents, do we get credit ? service is a joke. maybe the IRS should look at books again . look at the rates for other service aeras . when you complain i get a tuff sh-t .

What Zito doesn't tell you is that they collect some handsome revenue from Home Shopping, the Christian channels and others. That's right, Zito is paid money to carry these channels, rather than having to pay for them. So use some of that revenue to offset having to pay WJAC or WKBW a little more. Also, where is C-SPAN from channel 21? It was about the only place to get unfiltered news and good information about things that matter without the wacko right-wing bias of Faux News or the liberal babble of MSNBC, O'Donnell, Maddow and the other biased nabobs of negativity.

i went from dtv to zito because dtv had no local weather or stations an i was paying way toooooo much i have had little problems with zito and yes it was fixed promply thank you zito for looking after our rates

Wake up 2:32... If there was an issue with "negative reporting" you'd have a channel line up that consisted of QVC, HSN and Bravo as everyone seems to have negatively reported things at one time or another. If you dont like their service then by all means go elsewhere... Then lets see how you feel about Zito's service and quality. Your first issue with Dish will cost you about $75 to have them roll a tech to your house.

positive comments make me think some empoyees get something extra on payday.

As Things Get "Better" They Cost More. said...

I thought commercials were to cover the cost of providing us with television.

Oh to be able to turn back time to the day of free antenna tv and those big huge free satalite dish channels.

I personally enjoy watching WJAC TV. They cover many sports from the area. I really don't care what goes on in Buffalo or Pittsburgh. This station covers more news from the area than an other news station. There is always going to be a rise in cost of services provided whether it be TV, gas, electric. I have thought about switching to Dish or Direct TV but I prefer to support local jobs than to send my money elsewhere. The loss of video subscribers to Zito in just not the Coudersport area but Johnsonburg area will surely be felt by Zito. When you figure the cost to provide the services to customers it is pennies on the dollar (WJAC-TV).

With that being said I hope that Zito realizes that this channel is an important part of the communities that they service and reach an agreement to bring this channel back.

I will give it a couple of weeks and if the channel isn't back then I guess I will have no choice but to leave Zito and go to DBS. If they start losing customers then maybe they will rethink their decision. Once a customer is gone it is hard to bring them back.

I have done the research and with the channels and packages that I would choose along with Internet and Phone from Verizon - it would cost around $110/mo but that nasty 2 year contract makes me pause for the moment.

I very much enjoy WJAC-TV, & am quite annoyed that we now have a Pittsburg channel, which I COULDN'T care less about. WJAC does broadcast much more local news & sports, & also weather. I would think that what we pay for our Zito cable each month, they could afford to pay WJAC, & NOT raise our rates yet again. Please give us back WJAC. I also agree channel 8 & 61 are alway's on the blink, & I enjoy those channels as well.Come on Zito, do right by your customers.

They just raised our cable and internet bills. And now they are taking channels away. I likes WJAC TV. Because I have family that live in that area and it was nice to hear what was going on down there. We have alway had WJAC TV since I was little, I don't know what Zito is thinking. So they will be raising our cable and internet bills again. I guess we just can't win.

They're all a bunch of greedy bstrds.Looked at DISH & DirectTV but they're both chock full of a bunch of crappy or religious channels that maybe a handful of folks watch. The only decent shows are on AMC lately.U gotta have ESPN & NFL network otherwise most TV & almost everything coming out of Hollywood SUCKS!!!
