Extended Unemployment Benefits Program Ending in Pennsylvania

Extended Unemployment Benefits Program Ending in Pennsylvania
Harrisburg – The U.S. Department of Labor has notified Pennsylvania that the
state’s declining unemployment rate is too low to authorize continued payment of
Extended Benefits, or EB, the Department of Labor & Industry said today.

The EB program provided 13 weeks of unemployment compensation benefits
beyond federally funded Emergency Unemployment Compensation, or EUC, and 26
weeks of state-funded unemployment compensation.

The last payable week of EB will be the week ending May 12. Claimants currently
filing for EB may continue to file claims for weeks they are fully or partially
unemployed through May 12, 2012.

The department will notify, by mail, individuals affected by the end of the program.
Federally funded EB is a separate program from federally funded EUC. The EUC
program and participants are not affected by the end of EB in Pennsylvania.

About time. There are jobs out there if you really want to work.

I really want to work. I'd also like to be able to meet my obligations.

Sheetz, Trucklight, minimum wage doesn't cut it.

I'm mid fifties, so gas field laborer ain't cutting it.

I'd rather stay in my field. I got pretty good at what I do after 3 decades. But damn, I can't even generate interviews in Pittsburgh or Philly because the job market really is that competitive.

What do you recommend, genius?

I have applied at different places and want to work, but you can't make someone hire you. I have called to update my applications, various times to no avail. So maybe you should hold your tongue before getting smart. This coming to an end is going to hurt alot of people, some honest, some not. But don't get smart with those of us who actually deserve better!!!!

Some of us actually want to work. But until we find work, we rely on our unemployment, that we EARNED! I have applied at various places, have called various times to update my application and have gotten no where. You can't make someone hire you. You should definitely watch your mouth!

If u can't find a job, get off your lazy a** and go out and collect cans. There is good money in that and God knows that alot of people litter cans on any of the back roads!!!

Our Prez says the economy is booming and people are happy. He's either telling the truth OR he's lying to get re-elected in November. You decide.

I'm 43 and had never been unemployed in my life. In fact, I've usually worked 2 or 3 jobs. I was laid off 6 months ago and have applied, updated, reapplied and made phone calls. I have no health insurance for the first time ever! MOST PEOPLE REALLY DON'T CHOOSE THIS!

i have applied all over in potter county and all over i even have tanker and applied for those jobs as well they tell me when they call things are just slow..what do you do when you want to work and no one will hire you

Anonymous said...

Someone please explain how collecting something that you have paid into yourself, from your own earnings, is taking advantage of or relying on the government? Has any of the employed readers looked into private insurance, ie Cobra, lately? The small percentage of what you have paid that you can get/collect every week hardly covers anything. Very sad the local government didn't do anything to keep Time Warner there or persuade Level 3 to hire more people locally, in Coudersport.

Sheetz, Trucklight, minimum wage doesn't cut it.

But its better than no work at all. Unfortunately if you have to work at McDonald to make money then you have to do what you have to do..
But i do agree this is not right the PA government are prolly taking number from the cities like philly, pittsburgh and Harrisburg and making this assumption that the unemployment rate is down..

I agree 4:44.. plenty of jobs out there but you have to pass a piss test for most of them

Ya know, the number of arrogant a$$h0l3s in this county is absolutely astounding. No wonder people are leaving in droves. No good paying skilled labor jobs and a county full of big mouths.

FYI.....that very small amount charged to the employee each week does not even come close to what your EMPLOYER paid in on your gross wages, better look at an old check stub. YOU are drawing the amount your past employer paid in on the wages he paid you cause that .03 percent you had taken out is not squat!

I agree things arent easy i have agood paying job i think at 22 an hour and my wife an i still have a tough time especially raising 4 youngens

Anonymous said...

whats wrong with working two part time jobs or whatever you have to do to get by...I had to do it in the past and would do it again if need be...until something better comes along...you do what you have to do sometimes, like it or not...

Anonymous said...

Well If there are jobs out there I dont know where they are!!!!! Amazes me that some of you know everything about nothing. 100 people apply for one job at any given moment. Doesnt matter what the job is. A lot of good people will be hurt by this, but then I guess thats their problem for losing their job in the first place right?!

I am so sick of hearing the economy is getting better. It's NOT.I feel sorry for the people that their unemployment has run out. There are few jobs. What gets me is all the people that are on SSI and never worked a day in their life or fake their injurys. There sure is enough of that. You can't tell me they can't do a sit down job. They are on the computers all the time.I have worked for 40 years and I am still working because I can't make ends meet.Gave us a raise in SS and then took it out in Medicare and supplement and I am now in the hole. The SSI do not have medicare taken out and don't need a supplement because they have a access card and are the ones that run to the ER or doctor for any little thing. Something wrong with this picture. Give the benifits to the people that have been laid off and lost their unenployment.

post 10:01 there is nothing coming along, especially here in coudy, oh dont step on drill or gas peoples toes they would hire people here, lol i worked at a motel, there was lots of gas and oil people, big wigs, guess what? who did they have for labores?
not me, nor my son or husband, nor any one else, fax your resume to us.OKAY, did that guess what ? it got shredded along with others. so i guess you all AMERICAN PEOPLE(Working people think we U.S.) citizens can stand a chance working for these people? not so there for stick it as far as trying to find a job, oh by the way i dont want my family getting blown up or crushed by beams.

ah obama is leaving you high an dry. hum i wonder if he thought about when a lot of this was free money would run out, time for something new for four years.
i'm sorry you can't find a job an I wonder if you down sized your way of living while you were collecting that money just saying

Anonymous said...

just think when all the unemployment runs out there will say unemployment is down an that the jobs are there.. watch it will never say these benefits are done

Save our country! Vote Obama out in 2012. Give Romney a try, Obama clearly has failed. Just read all the above posts. We are not better off under Obama's dictatorship.

FYI I have worked for 22 years and been unemployed for about 4 months total. I am still way ahead and will never come close to what I or my former employers have paid in. What my employer or I pay in is still my money. Its the cost of an employee (wage+benefits+etc..)

Anonymous said...

How's that hope and change workin for ya all?

Anonymous said...

@12:48 pm -

Hope and change were stabbed in the back by a teabagger congress with absolutely no clue about managing an economy, republicans by any other name hellbent on clearing a decade or more worth of debt run up by a predecessor who inherited a surplus but left his successor with an economy in freefall.

you fucking ignorant rednecks would cut off your own legs if Fox News suggested it would help defeat a centrist democrat who's actual record shows him repeatedly reaching across the aisle, time and time again, in an effort to deal with the crisis of global proportions his predecessor left for him.

This congress has acted treasonous.

Anonymous said...

What about his congress he had for the first two years??? The one who put those great stimulas packages together that tax our great grandchildren and gave banks bonus money to pay our to the execs...Time for change is right..we tried it he failed, move on

Anonymous said...

Go to Empereon. They will hire anyone.

Anonymous said...

May 4 2:37 Obuma is that you? Could you be any more of a blame every one else jackass? Obuma and people like you are nothing more than the blind leading the blind right down the toilet! Oh one more thing teabagger congress? Obuma and his merry band of theives had control for 3 years!

Anonymous said...

To Poster 2:37;
That is one sad, uneducated rant!!

Sounds like your one that is willing to sit at home and take any free money the government will send.
Beware, there is an end to this free money.

Romney in 2012!! Out with Obama!

Anonymous said...

To the above poster earlier on:

When YOU or anyone else works 2 or more jobs, YOU are STEALING from those that need a job.

Anonymous said...

11:23:00 AM
I take it you have never been a business owner or had employees...let me spalin it to ya!
UC-2 is an unemployment compensation insurance FUND that your employer pays into each and every quarter and is charged a % of every dollar they pay out to their employees....this businesses employees are only ever allowed to draw a % of that money from the FUND, the state keeps the rest in the fund for unemployment benefits for disasters!
(wage+benefits+etc..)WRONG!

Anonymous said...

Okay, this is for all the ignorant and uneducated jerks that seem to take great pleasure at the pain others are feeling, right now:

You think you have all the answers? You thing working at Sheetz and McDonald's and three other jobs is really a viable alternative to "pay the bills"? Fine. Then, quit your current job and then put your money where your mouth is. Get out there and try it yourself; then, we'll see how your eyesight is, after a few months.

Anyone who has been out of work for more than a few months and is really trying hard, knows that finding a job IS a full-time job.

Hey redneck, Bush inherited a surplus and left the nation with an 11 trillion dollar debt and an economy in free fall. But yeah, it's all the black, muslin, commie, soshulist, fascist's fault?

No, ASSHOLE..YOU DO NOT GET TO ERASE THOSE 8 HORRIBLE YEARS.

Over my dead body you ignorant redneck.
