Covington residents will soon have a new bridge carrying Route 2022 (East Hill Road) over Wilson Creek in Putnam Township.
On June 11, a PennDOT bridge crew in Tioga County will begin a replacement of the existing bridge, which was built in 1921 and is currently classified as structurally deficient.
The team will remove the existing 17-foot long structure and prepare the site for a new concrete box culvert, which will be delivered and set in place by a private contractor. Then the PennDOT crew will perform all the finishing work, including rebuilding the roadway approaches, paving the deck and installing guiderail in order to open the new bridge.
The new structure will be built on the existing alignment to today’s standards, and shouldn’t have any major maintenance needs for 50 years aside from routine preservation work.
While the work is under way, traffic will be detoured onto Business Route 15 and Canoe Camp Creek Road.
The work is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete, with the new bridge expected to be in service by late July.
