Obama: Health Care Ruling a 'Victory' for All
June 28, 2012 - Obama: Health Care Ruling a 'Victory' for AllJune 28, 2012 - Obama: Health Care Ruling a 'Victory' for All
June 28, 2012 - President Barack Obama says the Supreme Court's decision to uphold his health care overhaul is a "victory for people all over the country" and will make their lives more secure.

Legislative Alert! U.S. Supreme Court Upholds Constitutionality of Affordable Care Act
By 2014, 32 million uninsured Americans will have access to health care

This is a great day for health care reform. The U.S. Supreme Court made a landmark decision today to uphold the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. This is a win for the health care of millions of Pennsylvanians.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law on March 23, 2010, by President Obama, completing a task worked on by seven presidents before him.
Patient Protection and Affordable Care ActPatient Protection and Affordable Care ActWith the passage of this important federal health care reform law, the president put families and small businesses in control of their health care, instead of insurance companies, and made quality health care a right for all Americans.
The benefits of the Affordable Care Act cannot be ignored, including expansion of insurance coverage, elimination of benefit caps and denials of insurance due to pre-existing conditions. We need affordable, accessible health care in Pennsylvania and this Act gives us just that.
While most of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act do not take effect until January 1, 2014, there are many beneficial attributes of the law that are already hard at work. These benefits could have been snatched away from those individuals already taking advantage of them if the Court would have ruled the law unconstitutional.
What was at stake:
  • More than 54 million individuals with private health insurance, including more than 20 million women have received preventative health care at no cost because of this act.

  • Approximately 105 million Americans now enjoy improved coverage without lifetime limits on their benefits. Approximately 28 million of these persons are children.

  • More than 4.5 million Pennsylvanians have benefitted from the removal of lifetime limits on benefits. Nearly 1.1 million of those who have benefited in Pennsylvania are children.

  • Children with preexisting conditions can no longer be denied coverage.

  • Domestic Violence is no longer considered a pre-existing condition.

  • Under the provisions of the law, seniors are currently receiving help with the cost of their medications

  • Nationally, more than 5 million seniors on Medicare have saved an average of $635 each on prescription drugs as a result of the affordability act.

  • Tax credits to help small businesses with the cost of health insurance for their employees are now in place. This allows small business to cope with the cost of health insurance and eliminates the competitive disadvantage with businesses that do not offer health insurance coverage.

  • Young Adults can stay on their parents health insurance until age 26, even though Pennsylvania has already implemented this prior to the act. As a result an additional 2.5 million young adults have gained coverage since September 2010.

March 23, 2010: President Obama signs the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
By the time all the provisions of the Affordable Care Act go into effect in 2014, all Americans will have access to affordable health insurance options. Health Insurance Exchanges will allow individuals and small businesses to compare health plans and chose the one that is best for their family and employees. Tax credits will be available for middle and low-income families to help cover the costs of healthcare. Medicaid will be expanded to cover more low-income Americans.
All in all, when fully implemented the Affordable Care Act will reduce the number of uninsured by 32 million.
We have fought long and hard and it has culminated in the work in Washington D.C. to finally achieve something that has never been achieved in this nation and clearly in this Commonwealth.
This is an absolute win for health care reform. For those of us who have labored so long for health care reform in America, we must continue the fight for the Affordable Care Act and work diligently to block those who want to see this landmark legislation fail.
We must now begin the task to ensure that all the provisions of the Affordable Care Act are implemented and that true health care reform is upheld.

Where is the part that says the government will see that the doctors and hospitals won't rape us over the coals with higher premiums and bigger co-pays?

Well well well.
This should be interesting to see the comments that this will trigger on here.
I would predict that the vast majority of those who speak out against this will already have health insurance and will not be making comments that suggest they give a damn about the millions and millions of people who are not so blessed as to have insurance or be able to afford the insanely high prices for medical care.
Here it comes!

I predict many informed comments from people that have given fair study to what good and bad might come from the bill.

Definitely in no way will we see people yelling about things they obviously have no clue about, and repeating lies and talking points their favorite pundits have been feeding them all day.

I for one am glad dead beats have to buy insurance

Glad my insurance company can not yank a carpet out from under my feet if I get sick.

Nice to know my next insurance company can't refuse to cover me if I actually prove to be human and get sick one day between now and then.

Pretty nifty they included a clause to protect us from unreasonable rate increases.

College kids that can't get an employer (let alone employer provided insurance) thanks to the economy failing to trickle down (they gambled it all away, who woulda guessed?) can stay on their parents insurance longer.

Lots of good stuff. Or it's a police state inducing end of freedom and America forever... it all depends on who you ask.

I'm not entirely against health care for everyone but I don't think I would say it is something I am blessed with by right of birth or something.

One thing:

If it was the end of the world the election-year talking heads what you to believe it was...

...do you really think it would have been a George W Bush appointee that would have been the deciding vote to keep it alive?

"It is amazing that people who think we cannot afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, and medication somehow think that we can afford to pay for doctors, hospitals, medication and a government bureaucracy to administer it" - Thomas Sowell

What a joke. The government can't even run themselves and we expect this to be our saving grace. Vote him in another 4 years, these last 3 and half have been so wonderful. Sorry, Bush did it, I almost forgot.

You will have a free medical card but good luck finding a doctor where you can use it!

Welcome to the end of Liberty, if it still existed. The gov. now has the authority and power to levy a tax for most anything all under the guise of healthcare for everyone. The IRS just got more powerful...that's wonderful.

This is and always was about more control wrapped up in a populist message, which always works in favor of more government.

Maybe we can get the money from China to support this bill

Bad enough my health insurance rates have triple in the past few years. As a taxpayer I already contribute to those who don't have and now I have to pay for their health insurance.

Well here we go again. The Govt is gonna supply my health care now too. Great. They have done such a good job running Amtrack, the Post Office, Solyndra, etc... Vote this clown out in the fall before it's entirely too late.

About time, now the dead beats who are making good money, but refuse to buy insurance, can now buy insurance. I say if they don't want to, then let them die.

Heil Obama. Enough said

Every leach who is in this country illegally should have been deported before any health care was enacted . They will contribute nothing and drain the system .
