Verdict is guilty but mentally ill, first-degree murder

Tioga County President Judge Robert Dalton Jr.
rendered his verdict at 2 p.m. June 29. Matthew David Priset, 28, took
the life of Clinton A. "Clint" Perry, 28, on Jan. 25, 2011. Today,
Dalton found Priset guilty but mentally ill of first-degree murder,
which means life in prison or a mental hospital, according to District

I never understood the defense that if a person is mentally incapable of understanding that murder is wrong their murder is somehow a lesser crime. In my opinion it makes them unpredictable and it is all the more reason society needs to be protected from having that person walking around with the rest of the population.
