Wallaby Captured Near Cambridge Springs In Crawford County

IS ANYONE MISSING A WALLABY?

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Game Commission officials are looking for information about anyone who may be missing a wallaby, which was captured around 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, along King Road near Cambridge Springs, Crawford County. The wallaby was tranquilized by officials from the Northwest Region, including Information and Education Supervisor Regis Senko, Crawford County WCO Mark Allegro and Northwest Region Wildlife Management Supervisor Roger Coup, and transferred to a licensed facility until the owner is identified.

Resembling a small kangaroo, a wallaby is a member of the marsupial family, and a native of Australia and surrounding islands.

“My landlord saw it, so I went down and took a photo of it,” said Sarah Dippold, former Game Commission biologist aide. “I forwarded the photo to the Game Commission’s Northwest Region office.”

Anyone with information about where the wallaby originated is encouraged to call the Northwest Region Office at 814-432-3187.

Is it even legal to have a wallaby in the US?

Since they are illegal in PA I don't think anyone is gonna rush to claim it. It probably got to big for the owners and they just abandoned it.

Kat,

Put down your crack pipe and get away from the computer if you are seeing Mountain Lions.

It is legal to own a Wallaby in PA if permitted right through the PGC.

Seems like The pgc would have a list of all those having permits for this type of animal, seems odd they would be asking for information. hopefully he or she is reunited with his or her legal owner.

animal land also housed wallabys at one time so with a permit they are legal.

Hey 9:54 PM. Read todays Bradford Era "Round The Square". Cougars are considered mountain lions I believe.
Maybe you are the one smoking crack! Just because the game commission doens't recognize them or haven't seen any (how could they, they're never out there on the job) doesn't mean they aren't here. Too many reputable people have seen them for it NOT to be true.

Ya, Ya, Braford. They have it all. Cougars, UFO's, Sasquatch, and Chupacabbra... I think you (10:36am) must be sniffing the lighter fluid over there.
