Coudersport Teen Killed In Early Morning Crash On Rt. 49

A Coudersport teenager was killed and another Coudersport man was seriously injured in an early morning car crash on Rt. 49, 8/10 of a mile west of Miles Road in Allegany Township.

Kaleb Bryan Haynes, 16, of 273 North Hollow Road, Coudersport, PA, was pronounced dead  at the scene of the 4:17 am crash by Potter County Coroner Kevin Dusenbury.

Joey C. Osborne, 21, of 104 West Chestnut Street, Coudersport, PA, the driver, was transported to Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, NY, by ambulance with serious injuries. His condition was unknown at the time of the news release.

Trooper Derek Weaver, in a news release, said Osborne was westbound on Route 49, operating a 2006 Pontiac coupe, when he failed to negotiate a slight curve in the roadway, causing the right tires to travel onto the north berm of the roadway.

Osborne then steered hard to the left, causng the vehicle to go into a passenger side leading yaw across the roadway, exiting on the south side. The car continued in this fashion for a short distance whereupon the passenger side of the vehicle impacted a utility pole. The car then rotated clockwise and overturned onto it's roof, coming to rest in a field on the south side of the roadway facing north. It was unknown if either victim was wearing seatbelts.

As of noon on Monday, Route 49 is still closed while utility companies repair the damage to the pole and remove downed wires from the roadway.

Coudersport and Tri-Town Fire Comapnies and Ambulances responded to the scene. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Potter County Coroner's office, PennDOT, Tri-Town and Coudersport Fire Departments, Verizon Communications, Tri County Electric, Zito Media, and Dave's Body Shop.

Troopers said the crash is still under investigation and no further details are available.
