3 Jailed For Attempting To Sell Explosives In Bradford

Three Bradford residents have been charged with selling explosives. Bradford City Police arrested 27 year-old Jarred Major, 28 year-old John Vanyo Jr. and 30 year-old Rechelle Judd after receiving a tip that the three were trying to sell a one pound brick of military grade C4 plastic explosives. 

City police, along with the Erie Bomb Squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arranged for a buy and arrested the three Saturday morning in the parking lot of Tops Market in Bradford. Major, Vanyo and Judd are all facing several charges, including possession of a weapon of mass destruction and risking a catastrophe. 

The three were jailed on $250,000 bail and will appear in McKean County Central Court on Thursday. 

 3 Arrested for Trying to Sell Explosives

On November 10, 2012, the City of Bradford Police Department with the assistance of Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the City of Erie Police arrested three individuals in connection with the sale and possession of approximately one pound of C4 explosive.

  The City of Bradford Police Department began this investigation in the days prior when information was obtained from a confidential informant that persons were attempting to sell the explosives. Bradford Police confirmed the information and contacted the ATF for assistance. 

The Bradford City Police and ATF arranged a controlled purchase of the explosive using the confidential informant. On 11-10-12 at approximately 1126 hrs, Bradford City Police with the assistance of the ATF and Erie City Bomb Squad arrested Jarred D. Major, DOB: 03-26-85, of 119 North Center St. Bradford for the sale and possession of approximately 1 pound of stolen explosive.

Jarred D. Major was charged with Possession or Manufacture of a Weapon of Mass Destruction F2, Recklessly Endangering another person M2, Carrying explosives on Conveyances M2, Causing or Risking a Catastrophe F3, Possession of Incendiary Devices M1, and Possession of Stolen Property M2. He was arraigned in front of Magistrate Dave Engman and remanded to McKean County Jail on $250,000 bail. 

Bradford City Police then learned that John Vanyo 119 North Center St. , Dob: 02-17-84 , had possessed the same stolen C4 explosive for approximately two months at a shared residence at 119 North Center St. Bradford. This residence is directly adjacent to the School Street Elementary School in Bradford City.

Bradford City Police learned that the explosives had been stolen from Vanyo’s employer, Kellner Well Services of Knapps Creek, NY approximately two months prior. A search warrant was executed at Major's and Vanyo's residence 119 North Center St. and no other explosive substances were found. 

Vanyo was charged with the following crimes: Possession or Manufacture of a Weapon of Mass Destruction F2, Recklessly Endangering another person M2, Carrying explosives on Conveyances M2, Causing or Risking a Catastrophe F3, Possession of Incendiary Devices M1, and Possession of Stolen Property M2. He was arraigned in front of Magistrate Dave Engman and remanded to McKean County Jail on $250,000 bail. 

Also arrested was Rechelle L. Judd, DOB: 01-17-82 of 91 High St. Bradford for conspiring with Jarred D. Major to sell the stolen C4 explosive. Police learned that she had been at the Holley Hotel 153 Main St. on 11-09-12 advertising and arranging the sale of the stolen C4 explosive so that she could receive a portion of profit from the sale. Based on her involvement she was charged with the following crimes. Conspiracy to Possess or Manufacture a Weapon of Mass Destruction F2, Conspiracy to Recklessly Endanger another person M2, Conspiracy to Cause or Risk a Catastrophe F3, Conspiracy to Possess an Incendiary Device M1, and Conspiracy to Possess Stolen Property M2. She was arraigned in front of Magistrate Dave Engman and remanded to McKean County Jail on $250,000 bail.
