California Road bridge replacement open to traffic

A new bridge on Route 4007 (California Road) in Westfield Township, Tioga County is open to traffic today.

The previous, 34’-long bridge over California Brook was built in 1932 and was structurally deficient.

A PennDOT bridge crew removed the old bridge and prepared the site to receive a precast concrete rigid-frame culvert, which was delivered and set in place by a private contractor. Then, the PennDOT crew restored the roadway approaches and performed all other work needed to open the new bridge to traffic. New guiderail will be installed later under traffic.

The detour was lifted late yesterday.

The project is located about a third of a mile north of Route 49 and northeast of Westfield Borough.
