member of the Potter County Board of Commissioners will advocate for
Pennsylvania military veterans at the national level. Commissioner Paul
Heimel has been appointed to the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee
for the National Association of Counties (NACo). Committee members
develop policies to advocate for veterans’ benefits and services with
the federal government.
U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is facing growing pressure to
meet the needs of returning war veterans from the Middle East. At the
same time, more veterans from previous wars are turning to the VA for
help. The NACo Military and Veterans Affairs Committee works with
members of Congress and lobbyists to hold the federal government
accountable for caring for the nation’s veteran population and veterans’
families. Effective advocacy is critical in the current era when many
federal programs are being reviewed for possible funding cuts
