District 9 Football

Junior quarterback John Katis threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns in Clarion's 35-14 win over Brockway Saturday. The Bobcats also picked up 244 rushing yards. The win sets up a battle of the unbeatens next week when Clarion takes on Port Allegany for the District 9 championship. The game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bradford's Parkway Field.

Clarion's Ian Corbett escapes Brockway's Jacob Perrin

Clarion 35, Brockway 14
After the closing prayer of thanks, the message was clear from both teams: Beat Port. By the way, Clarion has a great band and halftime show.
What are you doing next Saturday? Do you have a message for Clarion?

Message for clarion...u can't beat the unbeatable

Port will get beat this year, but not by Clarion.

Now there's a prediction! You do know that only 1 team in each class, that enters the playoffs, finishes the season with a win. That means only 4 teams will win their last game. Hopefully Ports run will go at least to the state semis. that would be a great accomplishment. A step or 2 farther, would be in the finals & winning it. That would be a lot for such a small school but the kids must beleive!

The kids can 'beleive' what they want, but Sharpsville and West Middlesex might convince them otherwise. And that's just the state quarterfinals!!! The winner of two weeks form nows games gets to (ostensibly) go up against Clairton, the returning 2 time state champs. Port looked 'off' against ECC, let's hope they're looking better against Clarion this next week, cause they're going to need all they can the following week.
I got nothing against Port, but to set yourselves up for the inevitable by chanting and yelling "state champs' is dumb, until you get there.
By the way, Smethport is STILL the only team from this area to make it to the state finals. It was the fall of 1991, in the middle of the run of 67 regular season games in a row that they won. They lost to Scotland School, but they beat Rochester 6-0 in the Western final, where, if Port beats Clarion then gets past Sharpsville or West Middlesex, they will probably meet Clairton.

I've been in the middle of the crowd at every game, I have not heard those chants at all. One game at a time. Focus is on Clarion, nobody else. And yes, ok, Port looked "off" against ECC. They still won by 41. I hope they're "off" like that this weekend too.

Clairton's 2 cornerbacks and both safety's are all Division 1 recruits.

So what, Port plays Clarion, not Clairton this week.

Anonymous said...

Yea, you're right, don't worry about anything other than Clarion, because that's the last game Port will even be a contender in, lol. IF they get past Clarion, West Middlesex will be there waiting.
Prediction: WM 56-Port, 6

Read the first two comments, genius!!!

"They've never seen a passing attack like they will this game!"

"Message for clarion...u can't beat the unbeatable"

Port's not overconfident, right?
I HAVE heard the crowd at games saying Port will win the state this year, calling this team 'The Dream Team', 'best team ever in D-9', 'most explosive team in this area ever' etc. etc.
As far as records… who's record did he break? Oh yea, a different guy from D-9, who ALSO played OE, CC, Coudy, Smethport, JBurg, Ridgeway, etc, etc.
Even the records are 'small school'.
Oh, it's gonna be a loooong fall.

The Gators have a secret weapon. The dildine banner brings good luck. Look at the record so far. As long as the PIIA doesn't make them take it down.

who's over confident? does the fans matter? the players & coaches are what counts. They are preparing for Clarion & that's it. They are not looking ahead. Fans have been talking about this game for 10 weeks but that doesn't matter

Sounds like a few disgruntled Hubber fans. In their long regular season win streak exactly who did they beat? Other noncompetitive teams in the AML, big deal. If that streak was against Dist 10 or 6 teams then that would be something to brag about. And so they made it to the state final, who won that one? It doesn't count unless you win. When was the last time the Hubbers beat the Gators? 2000 I believe, haha
