Galeton Presbyterian Church News

Galeton Presbyterian Church News
November 18, 2012
By Martha Pennell
Roger Wagner, a retired Presbyterian minister, was our guest pastor on 11-18-12. His sermon was based on Second Corinthians 4: 16-18. The Apostle Paul wrote that though our outward man is perishing, our inward nature is renewed daily. Our light affliction works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Things which are seen are temporary, while things not seen are eternal.

Pastor Wagner stated that affairs of the world do not last, but matters of the heart and spiritual affairs, and the love of God as revealed in Christ do. Pastor Wagner expressed his belief that the American culture has disdain for all things spiritual. It is almost exclusively secular and has left God out of the equation.

Today’s clergy embody a way of thinking that is outdated and antiquated.

If there was ever a loser it was the Apostle Paul, according to Pastor Wagner. He did not act or sound it. Resiliency and a tenacious spirit were the source of his strength. The strength we get from God we go not alone through the valleys. What we see today is gone but what we cannot lasts forever. Spiritual affairs and matters of the heart.--those underpinnings keep us afloat.

Henry Lush was lay leader. Marge Rawson and Julie Jeffries were ushers. Prayer family for the week is Donna and Bob Martin. The sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated on November 25, 2012. The Session meets on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at 7pm. The 2013 budget will be created and will be presented to the congregation in January. The church has a new address,
P. O. Box 52, and a new email address, fpchurch19@verizon.net.

Sounds like a good sermon to me too. Thanks for sharing with us. Are Roger Wagner's parents Gerald and Joy Wagner by any chance?
