LARRY’S, IN GALETON – POTTER COUNTY’S BIG BUCK CONTEST EXPANDED TO INCLUDE BEAR ENTRIES
Galeton, PA, LARRY’S SPORT CENTER, is proud to announce that they will expand their popular Big Buck Contest to include Bear entries. They are changing the contest to “LARRY’S BIG GAME CONTEST” in honor of the 20th year Anniversary of the contest, which started in 1993. The contest is open to all archery and rifle hunters in PA and NY. Anyone under 18 years must enter their Buck or Bear in a parents name to be eligible to win. Pre registration is recommended but not required. Deer or bear must be brought in to Larry’s Sport Center for point verification. Bucks will be given 1 entry for each point on the rack, bear will be given 1 entry for every 25 pounds in weight (these must be verified by the ticket from a bear weigh station). The winner will be drawn at 3:00PM on Saturday, December 15th, winner does not need to be present to win. Entries will be allowed up until 2:00PM on the day of the drawing.

Grand prize is a 2012 Yamaha 350 4X4 Grizzly, Second prize will be a free head mount donated by ENDLESS MOUNTAINS TAXIDERMY of Galeton, PA. This Big Game Contest offers one of largest prizes in the east. It’s free to enter and any size bear or buck can win…with a little luck.

The 2011 contest winner was 13 year old Dan Saporito, with his dad, Chris Saporito from Mohnton, PA. Dan shot a 3 point buck and brought it in, one of his tickets was pulled as the winner of the Yamaha Grizzly. The 2012’s Big Game Contest’s first entry was a 6 point, shot by Dan Saporito during archery season. Dan shot this buck 100 yards away from where he shot his first buck.

After talking with Dan’s dad Chris, we were informed that another family member, Kevin Quinter won the 4 wheeler in the 1997 Big Buck Contest and his buck was also shot 100 yards away from Dan’s spot! Chris has decided that the first day of rifle season he will try his luck in that “sweet spot” and hopefully have another entry for the Big Game Contest.

One lucky family with one lucky hunting spot!!

Doesn't look like those antler restriction laws are really helping the rack size.

There isn't any deer.

They dont apply to youth hunters. Good job boys. I remember being that age and I know those deer are trophies in your books! Congrats.

I'd say it's high time that the price of non-resident licenses was raised and the morons at PGC were fired! For the few bucks I have seen this year, they were all young and/or had very small racks. That six-pointer in the top photo is the best rack I've seen this year.

7:21am,

You are the moron! Get out of your footie jammies and get out and hunt. I am surprised that you don't see lots of deer with all the road hunting you probably do. Do youself a favor and subscribe to some of the pa hunting blogs. Chalk full of some amazing bucks. Hell even the youngsters are doing well. Shame on you for blaming someone else for your lack of ambition to get out of the cabin and into the woods. You certainly can't eat that deer on the cabelas sweatshirt you always wear!
