Letter To the Editor

 Opinion

DID JEFFERSON THINK GOVERNMENT SHOULD CONTROL WHAT PEOPLE BELIEVE?

THIS IS THE ANSWER ABOUT GOD AND RELIGION DURING THE 1700-1800'S AS ONE GENTLEMAN HAD ASKED LAST MONTH. IF HE READ HIS HISTORY IN SCHOOL, HE WOULD KNOW THE TRUTH.

On his ( Jefferson's ) draft of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedoms (1781 ) QUOTE::: Almighty God hath created the mind free, and ...all attempts to influence it by temporal punishments are a departure from the plan of the holy author of religion who being Lord of Body and Mind, yet chose not to propagate it by coercions on either, as was his almighty power to do, but to extend it by its influence on reason alone.

In his second inaugural address , (1805 ) QUOTE ::::: In matter of religion, I have considered that its free exercise is placed by the Constitution on dependent of the powers of the general government;
In 1808, Jefferson wrote to Samual Miller, I consider the government of the United States as probihited by the Constitution from inter meddling with religious institutions, their doctrines, discipline, or exercises. Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the times for these exercises and the objects prayer for them, according to their own particular tenets.

The 6th President , John Quincy Adams (1767- 1848 ) NICKNAMED THE "HELL HOUND OF SLAVERY", when asked why he never seem discouraged or depressed over championing such an unpolular fight, John Quiny Adams Replied: " Duty is our's; results are God's ".

We could voice quotes at each other till the cows come home but it proves only that we believe ( because of our free will of thoughts ) in what we are printing. This is part of the political process.

God's will is going to prevail when we have united as the Bible teaches and speaks and think as one.

I wish we could have our schools get involved with Amercan History as the adults do to express their views. What ever happened to writing a 15 page history essay, say on Ben Franklin or the Constitution for home work in one week instead of texting, tweeting ,t.v. or getting into mischief ? Are the schools too misguided or are the teachers not informed about or taught American History? Those who forget the past, tend to repeat it..

Causer,

Let me see if I understand this. It took you a month to come back with a reply? Hell, I can do a google search and come up with something snappy in seconds. Glad it took you so long to page through your history books for an answer. Pretty obvious that you didn't have the answer at the time. Seems like someone else here needs a remedial history class as well.

Mr. Causer

I do not believe the schools are too misquided, however I do believe that the institutions responsible for educating our teachers is the cause. It is a sad case when God is removed from our public school system (because of political reasons) only for it to be held hostage by an institution that does nothing but preach the politics of one party. Until God can somehow find a way back into the education system we will inherit what we do not fight for.

7:12 your an idiot! Our country and our schools are screwed and it's only going to get worse! The sad thing is the kids are the ones to suffer!

Really. I guess I need to address you as well. I am “a.k.a. I'm" not an idiot. You are “a.k.a. you're" sadly mistaken. Get my subtle hint. Your "your" is wrong making you a buffoon. You might need some educating yourself. Hey you threw the stone….

745. School is for learning. You know like math, history, science. Church is for god and religion. If you choose to go to church every Sunday or everyday even have at it it's your choice but that's not what school is for.

Im not much of a religious man but Ive always bitched about this. Of course it dont surprise me coming from "christians". They think they are the only religion in the world and everybody should follow. How would they feel if children were forced to say "one nation under buddha" (or any other "god". Just making a point here) every morning when they say the pledge of allegience in school? And then they bitch when people voice their own opinion. Its wrong. Any way you look at it. Religion shouldnt be forced on anyone.

You are terribly out of touch with today's youth, if you think you could get the majority of any class of kids to write a 15-page essay on anything. If you don't believe me, then I strongly suggest you jump through the State's many hoops for becoming a teacher and try your hand in a high school classroom yourself. You'll find out rather quickly that "they don't care", and your hands are tied.

Thank you Mr. Causer!

God Bless America!

7:12, Mr. Causer not only posts his name but his phone number as well. That's courage and speaks volumes to his character, whether you agree with his thoughts or not.

Sitting behind a computer, namelessly, taking irrelevent jabs speaks volumes to your character as well. Integrity-look it up.

I am living proof that corp. punishment works. If I didn't hand in my homework on time - get up, come to the front of the class - wack wack wack (3 hits with a paddle. You bet I turned in my homework the next day.

Consequences for wrong doing should be swift and just. Kids today seem to be punished over a LONG period of time for minor infractions, when a swift kick in the ass would do better.

No wonder they just give up.

Jack,

Good one and how original. Let me guess your wife is named Jill. You are just beaming with integrity. Look up the word smart. Now you should catch my drift.

This letter was on my computor, in draft, the day my last letter appeared. I want others to respond. My next letter is already on my computor, in draft, so I do my research constantly. Yes , I was an instructor twice , at Ft. Knox, Ky. and Germany almost 50 years ago. You think kids are hard , try adults who always know it all. Enough said, Freds dead.

Uh, Yeah, I was going to say "Jack Who? You took your "irrelevant jab". Where's your character and integrity? You could use a dictionary too.

Our kids don't need religion in school they can watch the science channel to see how the universe was created.
