DID JEFFERSON THINK GOVERNMENT SHOULD CONTROL WHAT PEOPLE BELIEVE?THIS IS THE ANSWER ABOUT GOD AND RELIGION DURING THE 1700-1800'S AS ONE GENTLEMAN HAD ASKED LAST MONTH. IF HE READ HIS HISTORY IN SCHOOL, HE WOULD KNOW THE TRUTH.
On his ( Jefferson's ) draft of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedoms (1781 ) QUOTE::: Almighty God hath created the mind free, and ...all attempts to influence it by temporal punishments are a departure from the plan of the holy author of religion who being Lord of Body and Mind, yet chose not to propagate it by coercions on either, as was his almighty power to do, but to extend it by its influence on reason alone.
In his second inaugural address , (1805 ) QUOTE ::::: In matter of religion, I have considered that its free exercise is placed by the Constitution on dependent of the powers of the general government;
In 1808, Jefferson wrote to Samual Miller, I consider the government of the United States as probihited by the Constitution from inter meddling with religious institutions,their doctrines, discipline, or exercises. Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the times for these exercises and the objects prayer for them, according to their own particular tenets.
The 6th President , John Quincy Adams (1767- 1848 ) NICKNAMED THE "HELL HOUND OF SLAVERY", when asked why he never seem discouraged or depressed over championing such an unpolular fight, John Quiny Adams Replied: " Duty is our's; results are God's ".
We could voice quotes at each other till the cows come home but it proves only that we believe ( because of our free will of thoughts ) in what we are printing. This is part of the political process.
God's will is going to prevail when we have united as the Bible teaches and speaks and think as one.
I wish we could have our schools get involved with Amercan History as the adults do to express their views. What ever happened to writing a 15 page history essay, say on Ben Franklin or the Constitution for home work in one week instead of texting, tweeting ,t.v. or getting into mischief ? Are the schools too misguided or are the teachers not informed about or taught American History? Those who forget the past, tend to repeat it..
