Locally Available Associate Degree through Gannon U

Education Consortium of the Upper Allegheny - Offering Associate Degree Programs Locally

What happens when you get a US News and World Report Top-Tier University and a group of local educational organizations together to discuss opportunities to make education more effective? The Answer - a partnership between the Education Consortium of the Upper Allegheny and Gannon University that offers locally delivered associate degrees at a significantly reduced cost.

In a report recently released by the PA Legislative Budget and Finance Committee, the need for affordable, locally delivered education programs was clearly spelled out. This study indicated that access to affordable post-secondary education is important for increased workforce productivity, which PA needs to remain competitive in the global economy. It also points out that access to post-secondary education in rural areas is lacking, which has resulted in educational attainment that is well below the state average.

There are limited Associate Degree programs available in the region, and those that are available often require residents to travel an hour or more from their homes or workplaces to participate, greatly limiting accessibility. In addition, these programs often cost two or even three times more than community college programs, making them unaffordable to residents in rural PA.

The fact that there are no community colleges north of Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania doesn't mean that affordable education should not be made available to local residents. Students interested in an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts or Business Administration can start this January and earn their degree in as little as 2 years if they attend full time. Courses are also available for students interested in attending school part time. Gannon University will be delivering these programs in Coudersport, Kane, St. Marys, and Clarion/Meadville.

Adults interested in earning a college degree, residents who feel college is too expensive to be an option, individuals who want a second chance at college, and high school students who want to earn college credits should all learn more about this opportunity. For more information about this program or other educational opportunities available through the Education Consortium, contact ECUA at (814) 757-5731, email dvicini@ecuapa.org, or visit our website at www.ecuapa.org.
