Man Arrested For DUI After Crash On Rt. 120

Charges are pending in District Court 59-3-01 for a St. Marys man accused of DUI after his Lexus struck guide rails on both sides of Route 120, 2/10 mile east of the Elk/Cameron County line at 2:45 am on Monday.

George J. Smith, 37, of St. Marys, PA, was arrested for DUI without incident by Trooper Paul Mall of the Emporium barracks.

Trooper Mall said the crash occurred as Smith's 1996 Lexus LS400 was traveling east on Route 120 when it traveled onto the shoulder of the eastbound travel lane and struck the guide rail, then traveled across both lanes of travel and struck the guiderail located on the shoulder of the westbound lane.

Smith then fled the scene in an eastbound direction.

State Police were able to intercept the Lexus after a complaint was made by a passing motorist who provided a vehicle description. The vehicle was stopped and upon investigation and an interview with Smith, it was determined that he was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.

Well, for one thing, 9:40, he damaged the guide rails and should have to pay for that damage. Not only that but hopefully this will deter him from driving drunk again. He may not have hurt anyone this time but what about next time? Could be you or one of your loved ones. So I say a big THANK YOU to that whistle-blower!
