Born February 20, 1927, in Easton, he was the son of the late Michael P. and Elizabeth (Johnston) Rose.
On August 9, 1951, in Punxsutawney, he married Joanne Elizabeth McMillen; she died on April 7, 1987.
Mr. Rose was a 1948 graduate of Bradford High School. On February 16, 1945, he enlisted in the United States Navy; he served in the Pacific Theater during World Word II before being honorably discharged on July 29, 1946.
He had started working at Wright Monumental Works at the age of 13 and continued after he returned from the service, engraving headstones until 2002. An avid gardener, he was a talented jack-of-all-trades who found his greatest satisfaction in creating, building and repairing things for his family and friends.
Surviving are three daughters, Cheryl Lopus of Bradford, Michele (William) Conner of Pittsburgh and Betsy (Neil) Cunningham of Jefferson, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delores Myers of Bradford and Rita (John) Murphy of Dover, Del.; a brother, Ralph (Judy) Rose of Bradford; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by by Philip and Pauline Rose Sr. who raised him; a sister, Joyce Rose; and a brother, Philip Rose Jr.
Family will be receiving friends on Monday (November 26, 2012) from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., South Avenue, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Max Miller, pastor of the Bradford Area Parish of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Bradford.
