West Hill Road bridge being closed for safety reasons
The bridge carrying Route 2022 (West Hill Road) over the Tioga River in Putnam Township (Covington) in Tioga County is being closed as a safety precaution.
The bridge is located between the intersections with Canada Road and Williamson Road.
The closure is a result of extensive undermining at a pier. The bridge had previously been reduced to a single lane; however, the undermining is worsening, prompting the need to close the bridge entirely to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
A signed detour, using Canada Road and Williamson Road will be in effect as of this morning.
Emergency repairs are being planned.
