William J. Rapan, 75, of 560 S. Main St., Bolivar, NY

William J. Rapan, 75, of 560 S. Main St., Bolivar, NY,  passed away on Sunday (Nov. 25, 2012) in the Wellsville Manor Care Center following a brief illness.

Born Aug. 6, 1937, in Wellsville, he was the son of Raymond and Kathleen Walsh Rapan. He married the former Pauline Crandall on June 12, 1965, in Bolivar. Mrs. Rapan preceded him in death on May 20, 1977. He later married Lucy Jordan on April 19, 1980. Mrs. Rapan preceded him in death on April 10, 2002.

Bill was a graduate of the Wellsville Central School. Bill was employed by Acme Electric Co., Cuba, for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Marys Church, Bolivar, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister; Life member and past president and Captain of the Ambulance Squad of the Bolivar Fire Dept.; Member and past President of the Bolivar Lions Club; Volunteered as a driver for the Allegany County Office for the Aging; and was a volunteer driver for the Allegany County Meals on Wheels Program, was an Instructor for the American Red Cross and served as the community Santa Claus for many years.

Surviving are two children, Carolyn (Jay) Little of Orlando, Fla., and Michael (Kelly) Rapan of Bolivar; four grandchildren, Joshua Rapan, Brett Rapan, Ashley Rapan and Kyle Rapan; three brothers, Fred (Maxine) Rapan of Taylor, S.C., Lee Rapan of Lake Whales, Fla., and Tom Rapan of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Jeanne Rushmore of Wellsville, and Linda Rapan of Black Mountain, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Rapan, June 20, 1990, and one brother, Bob Rapan.

Friends may call at the Schaffner Funeral Home, Inc., Bolivar, on Friday from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (Dec. 1, 2012) at 10:30 a.m. in St. Marys Church, Bolivar. The Rev. Thomas Roman will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Bolivar.
