Berton C. Nearing, 84, of 1724 East Valley Rd., Smethport, PA

Berton C. Nearing, 84, of 1724 East Valley Rd., Smethport, PA, passed away, Thursday, December 6, 2012, at the Sena Kean Manor.

Born September 24, 1928, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Ira and Virginia (Lockwood) Nearing.

On June 13, 1959 he married Violet N. (Shugars) Riley who died August 25, 1983, then on April 15, 2000 he married Mabel (Howard) Nearing who survives.

Mr. Nearing attended Bradford Area Schools. He was self employed, working many Flea Markets in the area.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three step children, Betty Baldwin of Wellsville, Shirley Irwin of DuBois, and Karen Riley of DuBois, two sisters, Jackie Baker, and Charlene Conner, both of Bradford, several grandchildren including Bill Slater and the Strait family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Forest Nearing and Bruce Nearing.

At the family's request there will be no visitation. Private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc.
