Clara Ann “Jo-Jo” (Carl) Calaman, 34, of Westfield, PA

Clara Ann “Jo-Jo” (Carl) Calaman, 34, of Westfield, PA, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at York Memorial Hospital, York, PA. 

Born June 29, 1978, in Wellsboro, she was a daughter of Lee E. and Sharon L. (Hess) Carl of Little Marsh, PA. She was a 1996 graduate of Cowanesque Valley High School and then attended the Elmira Business Institute for Medical Transcription and finished her Associates Degree at Penn Tech. 

On April 26, 2008, in Westfield, she married Curtis E. Calaman, who survives. 

Clara worked at S.T.A.R. Inc. for many years and was a First Sergeant and Instructor. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her kids, husband, and family, as well as helping many underprivileged children. Clara had a huge heart and thrived on helping others. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Surviving besides her parents, Lee and Sharon Carl, and husband, Curt Calaman, are three sons, Connor, Blake, and Lee Calaman, all at home; a daughter, Kayli Carr, at home; a brother, Aaron (Marlo) Carl, Knoxville, PA; two sisters, Gwen (Brian Button) Plank, Knoxville, and Samantha (Travis Moore) Carl, Little Marsh; paternal grandfather, Don (Joyce Empson) Carl, Scio, NY; paternal grandmother, Phyllis (Tom Spencer) Belcher, Wellsboro; maternal grandmother, Clara Hess, Little Marsh; father and mother-in-law, John and Cynthia Calaman, Galeton; brothers-in-law, Kristin (Lisa) Calaman, Maine, and Scott Calaman; sister-in-law, Lori (Jeff Doxzen) Wheeler, York, PA; nephews and nieces, Cody Taylor, Asher Calaman, Mariah and Logan Boyd, Tyler, Alexis, and Jayden Wheeler, Jemma Doxzen, Brandon Button, Makenna Moore, and Emma Carl; her beloved dog, Rocky; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Clara was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Robert “Bud” Hess. 

Friends may call at the Jemison Valley Brethren in Christ Church, Westfield, on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 from 4:00-5:00p.m., with a Memorial Service following at 5:00p.m. The Rev. Ray Mummert will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton.
