Corbett: Lifting Cap On Gasoline & Diesel Tax Would Raise $1.4 Billion

Corbett Mulls Lifting Cap On Gasoline Tax
 By Scott Detrow
State Impact
Corbett opened up on the transportation funding issue during an interview with members of the Capitol press corps this week. Speaking in his office, Corbett indicated he’d be willing to lift a cap on Pennsylvania’s Oil Company Franchise Tax to help fund repairs.

The tax of 153.5 mils is currently applied to the average wholesale price of gasoline and diesel — up to $1.25 a gallon. As the commission stated, “The actual [average wholesale price] is now more than double the ceiling. Removing the ceiling would significantly increase revenue to PennDOT,
municipalities, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, counties, and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.” Up to $1.4 billion more, in fact. Read the whole article...

Just maybe if the state consolidated services and crossed trained certain agencies (I.E. Fish and Game Commission) and quit giving all the gambling revenue to the wellie cities they might have something laying around to fix the road and bridges. So much of duplication of services statewide. Hell if the state would force school districts to consolidate that would save billions in itself.

People like you bitch about Corbett but love what obuma is doing!

"Removing the ceiling would significantly increase revenue to PennDOT"
PennDOT needs to cut Staff...starting from the TOP....way too top heavy with managers & assistants who are an excess expense to the taxpayers.

Why not tax the elec and nat gas vech??? Where are the taxes like we have on gasoline and deisel vechicles???

First he said drilling was the answer. Now this. This is step 1 toward his agenda of natural gas vehicles. If gasoline is super expensive and his buddies can sell you natural gas for cheap (only to get you hooked) he and the scumbags will make billions!

Before to long we will be as taxed as New York State. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!! Then I can't pick on the idiots for living north of the border. I still say 'drill baby drill' but tax the gas companies that are literally committing highway robbery.

that aboy tommy, take more for the people who can least afford it and give it to the people that already have too much

tommy and his cronys are just plain greedy

here is a clue, the "R" party doesn't create jobs. THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION IS OVER IN THIS COUNTRY

they elimnate jobs! to increase profits to invest out of our country or to create a few "R" slave wages in this country using tax money

the "R" party knows no limit to their greed and their burtality to the poor and ever shrinking middle class

Dont worry. Obama will take care of us.. Just sit back and enjoy the ride, free phones, food stamps, welfare.. Its a great country unless you are responsible and go to work every day. (although I do feel for the people who actually do want to go to work and cant find a job,, but they are the minority.)

Governor Corbett is right the roads in the Commonwealth need repair, However he should look to his Buddies in the natural Gas Industry to pay "A FAIR SHARE of taxes. I love the comment on Obama, don't people realize this is a state issue and not the Federal Governments problem. Corbett wants to RAISE TAXES on the motoring public that is already paying through the nose especially trucking companies that are being screwed over with the price of Diesel Fuel Corbett put a tax on your friends that donated all the money to your campaign instead of the people of the commonwealth

did he clear this with grover no taxquist ?

Around here, the roads are bad BECAUSE of the heavy truck traffic, even before the gas boom. Make them pay, not the people who live here and have to deal with their daily travels.
