First Day Hike at the Canyon

First Day Hike at the Canyon

Leonard Harrison State Park will sponsor a free, guided hike on New Year’s Day as part of America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative, taking place in all 50 states. America’s State Parks

First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on January 1, 2013 at a

state park close to home. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family.

Start out on the right foot in 2013 with a short hike, exploring the PA Grand Canyon. This slow-paced, family-oriented hike will be less than 1.0 miles in length. If conditions warrant, a limited number of snowshoes will be available or you may bring your own. Dress for the weather. Meet at the Leonard Harrison State Park office at 1:00 PM. Hot chocolate, coffee and tea will be available following the program and participants are welcome to bring extra holiday cookies or treats to share with the group (or get rid of). If you need an accommodation to participate in park activities due to a disability, please contact the park by calling 570-724-3061. No registration is required although the program may be cancelled in the event of hazardous weather conditions.

The January 1 First Day Hike is the kick-off to the 2013 Winter Outing Series. Events planned in and around Tioga County include ice skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and much more! For a full listing of events see www.stepoutdoors.org or “like” Step Outdoors on Facebook.
