Florence J. Fitzsimmons, 88, of Park Lane Drive, Port Allegany, PA, formerly of Duke Center

Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother

Florence J. Fitzsimmons, 88, of Park Lane Drive, Port Allegany, PA, formerly of Duke Center, passed away Thursday (December 20th, 2012) peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. 

Born April 23rd, 1924 in Bolivar she was a daughter of Hiram E. and Esther Elliott Cornell. On August 23rd, 1941 in Bradford she married Sidney C. Fitzsimmons, who passed away January 12th, 2002.

Florence resided in Corsica, Bradford, Eldred Twp. and Duke Center before moving to Port Allegany in 2004.

Along with her husband she operated a farm in Corsica for 6 years. She was later employed by Owens Illinois Company in Bradford for 24 years before retiring in 1974.

Mrs. Fitzsimmons was a member of the Duke Center United Methodist Church, and was also a member of the Keystone Chapter #2 , Order of the Eastern Star of Duke Center since 1969, and was a Worthy Matron in 1977, 1984, 1991 and 1995. She was also the District Deputy Grand Matron in 1983 to 1984. She was a member of the Port Allegany Senior Center where she represented them at the 2006 county fair.

She enjoyed cooking, caring for her family and had sold produce in Prentisvale for many years. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and had attended many home games.

Surviving are four sons, Larry S. (Josephine) Fitzsimmons of Port Allegany, Richard N. (Jeannette) Fitzsimmons of Erie, Robert D. (Glenda) Fitzsimmons of Duke Center and Ronald A. (Yoneko) Fitzsimmons of Fernley, Nevada; a daughter, Cheryl J. “Chick” (Peggy Cook) Fitzsimmons of Little Genesse, NY; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne (Harriet) Marsh of Bolivar.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Raymond Cornell; and one sister, Bernice Kemp.

Friends may call Sunday (December 23rd, 2012) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 am on Monday with the Rev. Glenn Hamilton and the Rev. Gary Sheesley, co-officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
