Jack Robert Doane, 69, of Navarre, Fla., formerly of Wellsville, NY

Jack Robert Doane, 69, of Navarre, Fla., formerly of Wellsville, N.Y., passed away after a lengthy illness at Destin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Destin, Florida, on November 26, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Sept. 18, 1943, in Olean, N.Y., the son of the late Robert W. and Gene B. (Colter) Doane and was the eldest of 6 siblings. On May 7, 1970, he married Marcy (Karr) Doane, who survives.

Jack attended school in Allegany and Olean, graduating from Bolivar High School class of 1961. Following graduation, he served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965 aboard the USS Strong based in Charleston, S.C. He retired from NY Tel / Verizon after 30 years of service and was a proud member of the CWA.

Jack was a past member of the Dyke Street Hose Company in Wellsville, helped for many years with the annual Wellsville Junior wrestling tournament and was a past president of the Wellsville Wrestling Booster Club. Jack was a skilled woodworker, building crafts and furniture in his shop and he also enjoyed genealogy and tracing his family tree.

Jack is survived by his son, Kim (Stacey) Doane of Bolivar, N.Y.; daughter, Shareen (Stanley) Wisniewski of Parris Island, S.C.; son, Shawn Doane of Navarre, Fla.; son, Kory Doane of Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren, Ashley (Mackenzie) Grove of Deltona, Fla., Kami Doane of Bolivar, N.Y., Jakob Doane of Fargo, N.D.; Carter and Colby Doane of Navarre, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Evan and Halden Grove of Deltona, Fla.; a sister, Linda (Jim) Day; a sister, Sue (Andy) Saunders, both of Bolivar, N.Y.; and a brother, Jeff (Dawn) Doane of Friendship, N.Y.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Torrey and his brother, Gary Doane.

There will be a private service for the family at a later date.
