Jefferson County Educator Named Pennsylvania’s 2013 Teacher of the Year

Jefferson County Educator Named Pennsylvania’s 2013 Teacher of the Year

Brockway Area School District teacher, Ryan Devlin, has been named Pennsylvania’s 2013 Teacher of the Year, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-25).
For the past five years, Devlin has taught at Brockway Area High School. He serves as chairman of the high school’s English department, in addition to teaching 11th grade British Literature, 8th grade Computer Science and two senior-high elective classes.

Scarnati said that Devlin is the first educator from the 25th Senatorial District to be named Pennsylvania’s Teacher of the Year.

“I congratulate Mr. Devlin for receiving this hard-earned award,” Scarnati said. “Our community is immensely fortunate to have outstanding teachers, like Mr. Devlin, who play an essential role in the lives of our children.”

Devlin received his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from Waynesburg University and his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from California University of Pennsylvania. Outside of the classroom, he serves the community as a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, teaches vacation Bible school and is involved in several after-school programs and activities.

Pennsylvania’s Teacher of the Year program is co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National State Teacher of the Year, which was founded in 1995. More information on Pennsylvania’s Teacher of the Year program can be found on the PA Department of Education website: http://www.pdesas.org/instruction/teacheroftheyear/.
