John Robert Apple, 63, of Lucasville, OH, formerly of Smethport, PA, died Tuesday (December 4, 2012) at Scioto Trails in Lucasville, OH.
He was born June 17, 1949 in Kane, a son of Attorney Robert B. and Mary Virginia McMichael Hickey Apple.
Mr. Apple attended St. Coletta School in Milwaukee, WI.
He is survived by cousins Jeanne O’Connor Romine of Smethport and Louise Apple Ogle of Kensington, MD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a half-brother, Dr. Phillip Hickey and a half-sister, Marie T. Langlois.
Services will be held at a later time and date at the convenience of the family.

RIP Johnnie, I have many childhood memories of you riding your bike around Smethport when I was a kid, singing and dancing all the time.
Anyone have any information about Johnnie being on the cover of Time magazine? I always heard he was in school in Ohio in the 50s and surprised many educators who thought people with Down Syndrome couldn't learn. I heard Time put him on the cover with a story about 'new' education techniques for handicapped kids.
