Local Program Supports Car-Pooling To WorkTransportation is one of the biggest barriers for people who want to work, but have no way to get where the jobs are. A partnership spelled out during a recent Potter County Commissioners meeting removes that obstacle.
The Vanpool Advantage Network (VAN) subsidizes transportation pooling, according to Area Transportation Authority spokesman Rich Viglione. For example, if seven or more out-of-town residents work the same shift at Empereon Marketing in Coudersport, they can ride together to and from work through VAN.
Even if commuters own a vehicle, they can save money and take advantage of tax deductions by using VAN. Employers are also given incentives to become involved with VAN. Viglione said a minimum employee group of seven is required to qualify for VAN. More details are available at a toll-free number, 1-866-282-4968.
