A Mt. Jewett woman suffered moderate injuries when her 2006 Ford Escape crashed on Route 46 in Shippen Township at 12:35 am last Saturday.
Laura L. Silfies, 41, of Mt. Jewett, PA, was transported by Emporium Ambulance to Elk Regional Medical Center after the crash.
Trooper Douglas Homan, who investigated, said Silfies was traveling south on Rt. 46, 6/10 of a mile north of SR4004. Silfies failed to negotiate a left hand curve in the roadway, drove off the west berm and entered an approximately three foot deep ditch where it traveled approximately 270 feet before striking a culvert with it's right front. Striking the culvert caused the vehicle to cartwheel back onto Route 46, crossing both lanes and eventually coming to rest on the east berm of the roadway.
Trooper Homan said that during the investigation, Silfies was suspected of operating under the influence of alcohol. Charges are pending

been alot of drunks wreck on that corner... just sayin
Maybe put up some bumpers. Like they do for my kids when we go bowling.
she wasnt drinking, she swerved to miss a deer, but so much for that saying, your innocent until proven guilty
Wow this women came from mount Jewett an wreck going into Emporium about three or four miles out of town why was she coming into town why not head out? That being said she traveled a hell of a long way before she wreck. Must of been a deer.
She may have swerved to miss a deer but the article does say she was suspected of being intoxicated. We can only assume that the officer had "reason to believe" that she had been drinking. I guess if you were with her, then you would know if she had been drinking or not.
you know I hope she's ok it looked like it was a nasty wreck..
