PennDOT Advises Motorists to Limit Winter Travel

PennDOT Advises Motorists to Limit Winter Travel

With the possibility of severe winter weather impacting highways and roads in the north central Pennsylvania region, PennDOT advises motorists to drive only when necessary.

Although PennDOT has crews treating roadways around the clock, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.

The department asks motorists to allow plenty of space when driving near plow trucks. Also, for their own safety and the safety of plow operators, motorists should never attempt to pass a truck while it is plowing or spreading winter materials.

Motorists should drive at reduced speeds and increase traveling distances between vehicles.

PennDOT reminds motorists to pack an emergency kit for their vehicles. A basic kit should include non-perishable food, water, blanket, small shovel and warm clothes. When preparing an emergency kit, motorists should take into account special needs of passengers such as baby food, pet supplies or medications and pack accordingly.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to www.511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check interstate traffic conditions before heading out.

Plow the damn roads! We've saved enough money with past winters being easy!

Sitting on your ass waiting for the storm to stop is BS. Keeping the road as safe as possible for Fire - EMS and Police should be first and foremost!

For crying out loud!
