President, Joe Pagano, introduced the speaker, Ed Pitchford president and CEO of Cole Memorial Hospital. Mr. Pitchford spoke about the various updates, improvements at Cole including the need to keep moving ahead with new ideas and modernizations necessary to keep ahead in this era of fast and vast changes in the health care industry. He particularly spoke about the Galeton Medical Center and the many changes taking place there. He encouraged the GDC to play an active roll in keeping in close touch with the center's staff to be able to help when needed. Community outreach centers are important to the mission of Cole Memorial and of course, the
Galeton Medical Center is a very important part of the community.
He was asked how will Obama Care affect the decisions made at Cole. He responded by saying that hospitals all over the country will be looking to merge in order to have access to the services necessary to better serve their communities. Presently, Cole has 800 employees and serves a total of 6 counties
School Superintendent, Dave Wishard, reported that the school reading night program continues to be a huge success as was the Angel Tree Christmas gifts effort throughout the community. He reported about the winter sports program, an outstanding Christmas concert and many other fine activities at the Galeton area school.
