Due to yet another substantial increase in our leaks, we were forced to make a drastic emergency decision today. We estimate that the combined leaks had reached between 150,000 and 170,000 gallons per day, in addition to the actual consumption that topped a total of 230,000 gallons over the past 24 hours. We were left with no alternative other than to isolate the one leak that we could, the one on Pomeroy Street, and shut that section of the main water distribution line down completely.
Fortunately, it only affects one customer, but unfortunately that customer will be without water service until at least next Wednesday when our leak locating professional can be here to assist us in pinpointing the source.
Customers on the western end of Main Street may have noticed that their water service was off for a brief period of time this morning while we made the necessary adjustments to the system, but those customers’ service has been restored. We would like to thank everyone involved with the process thus far for their patience and assistance while we try to navigate through this problem. As inconvenient and trying as the intermittent disruptions to their service are, they are not without absolute necessity.
