Unconfirmed reports of a shooting at the Presbyterian Church in Coudersport this morning are beginning to surface on facebook sites. Several names have been mentioned, but nothing is confirmed.
A Coudy News reporter was at the scene and has posted a report:

this is why ppl need to know the facts before running off at the mouth
Prayers for all.
This is such a problem with Social media sites. Why can't people just wait for confirmed reports and by golly refrain from posting any names until Next of Kin is notified? How would you like to learn of a loved ones death through Facebook. People, please show respect for those who those who may be intimately involved with such a horrible circumstance.
should not be saying names until this is confirmed but the FB users just cannot help themselves -geeze
All I seen on fb is prayers for the family .nothing bad no one is tunnelng their mouth about anything that I can see. Ppl need to leave guns alone if they don't ppl running their mouth why in the world would someone do that besides a syco path ....that's what is wrong with this world ppl make ppl mad and the first thing they do is pick up and a gun and shoot them then try to get away from it by pleading insane ...that should not be the way out u do the crime do the time.
Don't blame it on the guns....anything could have been used.
It don't matter what was used. Ppl need to stop and think what they do first ...but seems how it said shooting I am guessing a gun was involved seems how ppl heard gun shots
I see quite a few young kids using names on Facebook in the coudersport area!
So did I really happen, or not?
it is really sad that people are posting names all over facebook. the only thing that has been confirmed was that there as a shooting. but that is facebook for you. thats how my daughter found out her step father died. i didn't even have the chance to call and tell her people were already running their mouths without knowing what was going on.
Just like how Virginia Tech didn't warn students there had been a shooting on campus and the shooter was still on the loose, and then he shot others in one of the biggest school massacres in US history?
A jury found them liable for their negligence in handling the shooting and now virtually all campuses have a warning system in place for such events.
You don't have to like it but when there is a shooting, the public has a right to the details. Was the shooting an accident? Is the shooter on the loose? Is he in custody?
I do not need to know names of victims but clearly there is more information available than what has been provided. Due to Facebook postings I received a text message about the shooting from a family member in another state almost an hour before this was posted.
I assume the shooting was hours ago at this point, is it still "Unconfirmed"?
Prayers to the families and everyone involved very sad ppl went to praise God and it ends this way my heart for a out to you all.
And just for the record I don't hate guns but they do fall into the wrong hands
unfortunately fb users don't stop to think that there are families out tere that are involved they just want to run their mouths about what they think they know. i personally had this happen to me myself. my daughter found out about her father dieing b4 i had the chance to call her because of people on fb. its very sad.
1:54 yes it did, check out coudynews.com for a little more information.
What a sad situation..... prayers for all concerned. It is a shame that names were put out on fb before confirmation but it is not the fault of fb nor is it the fault of everyone using the site. Instead of condeming please just say a prayer for healing hearts.
To me anonymous equals cowardly, if you wanna bash teens and people posting stuff on facebook, use your real name. You can't control them, but you can own up to your comments.
Too many disturbed people have access to weapons that can harm and kill. I agree with the right to have guns, but people need to be screened better. I would not feel it was a violation of my rights to be screened for a mental illness or to have access to weapons restricted if I were under severe stress and not deemed responsible enough to control myself. Certainly a life could have been saved today by such screenings.
Kids don't know any better. They figure if "they" know, then everybody probably knows. Obviously the leak in information either came from someone involved in the incident or emergency responders. Either way, at 2:30 pm a link to another news site comfirms the name of the victim. We can only hope that her family was informed properly. Very sad.
well maybe if they would post he stuff as soon as it happens it wouldnt be posted on facebook cause we have a right to know if the person is loose or not or how many people got hurt
it is not the guns fault. the person that pulled the trigger is at fault. it is still a tragedy and prayers out there for the victims family.
It's so sad that it happend at the church but.
Thank god he didn't go to the children school and do it In front of the children or the kids getting shot or hurt.
A teacher at Coudy threatens the superintendent and now another teacher at Coudy does this. I think the community should be concerned.
This is not the place to be discussing the ways of facebook or media or pointing fingers at anybody. In a time like this, people need to be focused on the tragedy that has took place. Think of the other people who were directly involved and stop bickering about firearms and facebook.
My thoughts sure will go out to the student body of both schools, the families on both ends, and the unfortunate individuals who had to witness this tradgedy.
Screened for mental illness in order to own a firearm? Ok, even IF they were to do that, do you realize that sometimes a person just "snaps"? Actually, many times that is the case.... how do you suppose that that would be screened? It can't. This is a horrible tragedy, however it is also a part of life. If it wasnt a firearm, it would have been something else...maybe not in that setting at a church, but he surely would have found a way to carry out what he chose to do, just in another way. So please, enough with the gun bashing every time something like this happens. Use your head. Prayers out to all involved.
psychological screening to own firearms is unlikely to have prevented anything considering his position at the school and likely lack of criminal history.
It's too bad u don't have to go through psychological screening to post on Facebook ! My thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved in this tragedy! Much love to all!
What is wrong with our society!?
There is a tragic shooting and the first thing half of you think to ask is "are the guns ok?"
You people are messed up.
@ Sunday, December 2, 2012 2:50:00 PM EST, he could have easily walked up and stuck an illegal, semi automatic, high capacity steak knife in her. It's a sad thing but don't be blaming the utensil used in the murder, blame the murder himself. Guns are banned in several countries and people use whatever is avail. We have enough liberals in Washington without needing them in potter county.
of course people r going to say things on facebook it was shocking it was terribly terribly sad
