Person in custody from Shamokin fire

SHAMOKIN - Police have a person in custody as they investigate a suspicious fire that broke out about 10:30 p.m. Monday at East Sunbury and Franklin streets. City police chief Ed Griffiths said Tuesday morning that an arraignment was planned for this afternoon. The person is being held in Northumberland County Prison on a probation warrant.
The Shamokin fire was the third local blaze on Monday and the seventh in the past five days. A fire that started at about 4:55 a.m. Monday destroyed four homes along Route 61 in Kulpmont, and a blaze that began about 7:25 p.m. Monday gutted a home and killed several pets along Wabash Street in the Springfield section of Coal Township.
