Children’s Services Committee Meeting Thursday

Children’s Services Committee Meeting Thursday

childrenParents and grandparents who would like to be part of planning services for their children and grandchildren are invited to join the Potter County Integrated Children’s Services Planning Committee.

Committee meetings are held four times a year and include, among other agenda items, organizing the annual Family Fun Fair each summer at the Potter County Fairgrounds in Millport.

Last year, the committee was able to provide a substantial grant to support the formation of a Boys and Girls Club of Potter County. That organization recently announced it was suspending operations for the remainder of the 2012-13 school year and hopes to resume in the fall.

Next Integrated Children’s Services Planning Committee meeting will be held at 10 am Thursday, Jan. 31, at Potter County Human Services in Roulette. For more information on how to become involved, call 544-7315 or 1-800-800-2560.

To the person who was so adamant that there was not a government grant to launch the Boys and Girls Club, please read this carefully. In fact it was a very big grant, like tens of thousands of dollars, and it pissed me off when somebody was on this website denying the fact. I wish Potter County could have a Boys and Girls Club but if you look at the economics, we just can't afford it. One local service organization was asked for support and then when they found out that they were paying someone something like a $45,000 salary, they said no way. We want our money to go to help the kids, not pay some exorbitant salary. I hope the person who lied about this will see my comment and apologize and admit that yes it was a big grant from us taxpayers that fueled that high salary. Good luck to the Boys and Girls Club but do not turn to us taxpayers to feed that kind of salary in times like this and then make out like it is supported by donations and membership fees.
