Sunday, January 27,2013.

The annual congregational meeting was held following worship, with Rev. Roger Wagner, Wellsboro, moderating. All reports were approved as submitted. A nominating committee was formed, with Cora Roth, Robin Leach, Freya Miller and Donna Schott serving as new members. The meeting was adjourned at 12:20.

The Session met on Tuesday, Jan. 22, with Rev. Roger Wagner and Pastor Tom Shatto officiating. For any pastoral concerns and prayer please contact Pastor Shatto by e-mail or by phone at 435-2882, or cell phone 570-367-0041.

There was no choir because of many members home with illnesses. The monthly Fellowship dinner will be held in 1st Presbyterian next Sunday at 4PM. Ed Brown served refreshments after church

Freya miller was lay reader and read selections from Nehemiah and1 Corinthians. The Gospel reading was from Luke. Nehemiah read the laws to the Israeli people who had been in bondage for 50 years. Now they were home, and had to be refreshed on the laws. It was good news and they were told to rejoice…Jesus read Isaiah to the people telling them that there is hope for the Israeli people deported to Babylon. Jesus describes his “job” as the agent of God, the Messiah. We are acceptable to our creator just as we are.

The sermon was titled:The River of God. Pastor Shatto likens life to a river which is at times calm, other times with dangerous rapids. But Jesus is our pilot, and always there giving us freedom and acceptance, regardless of our sins. Last night was the full moon. Pastor Shatto sees God’s spirit like the moon, brooding over the earth, spreading the good news that we are acceptable to our creator just as we are.
